Question of the Day - 08 April 2020

Q:

Poll Preview: What will you do when the casinos reopen and Las Vegas returns to normal?

A:

This poll was suggested by Bob, whose handle, thebeachbum, many of you will recognize. We thought it was an excellent poll to follow the one that's running currently, which focuses on how Vegas will return when it reopens, whereas this one will survey how/when you'll return.

The question is: What will you do when the casinos reopen and Las Vegas returns to normal? Here are the choices Bob and we came up with; please add your own in the comment boxes for the poll that will run a week from today.

Or, as has been suggested, let us know if you feel this poll is premature, since the road back will almost certainly be long and slow.

Pinch yourself to see if you’re dreaming

Drive to Vegas as fast as you can

Get on the first plane to Vegas

Wait a little while to see what good deals and coupons show up before making your plans

Wait until LVA suggests it's a good time to come back

Wait until the economy begins to recover

Wait until your next vacation after returning to your job

Stay home believing it’s another Internet hoax

Be too worried about a potential second coronavirus wave to travel

Thank God (and all the health-care workers) for helping you survive the pandemic and mourn those who didn't

    Normal?
Depends. Back to normal? Or half-way back, as in every other machine turned off, every other bar stool empty, only three at a BJ table, buffet served to you by staff, six feet apart at a show? I'd be more likely to wait until completely back to normal.

Joseph - all the fees will return until we ( the public) stop going and one property doesn’t charge the fee and gets all the business .....free enterprise will make them change .....if the public keeps paying it then the message to leadership will be to keep charging the fee ........for example I got $5 per night at NYNY for June 3rd .......if I go then I will stay there and pay the parking and resort fee .....or I will go some other time or another place .......bottom line - $$$ will makes my decision for me

    New Norm
I don't see a return to "normal" until there is a vaccine and/or cure for CoVid-19. People will, hopefully, be very wary of large gatherings of people from all over this world. That being said: We have rooms booked on May 6th and June 3rd. We don't believe that May 6th will be available as we feel the shut down will be extended, but if it isn't cancelled?????? Then we have a decision to make. There will be somewhat of a risk with either date! It just may prove to be too hard to stay away even though there isn't a vaccine and/or a cure.

    Already taken action
No waiting at all: I've already booked plans in Las Vegas for a predicted future lifting of restrictions.

(and on a personal note, I've followed through on this for Week 1 of the NFL season in September)

    return to vegas ??
vegas could be like one of those old friends that just gradually fades off the radar and drifts away leaving only a handful of memories......could be time to move on and close another chapter of the ever evolving book of life......time will tell......

    Unsure
I'm not sure that Vegas ever will completely return to normal, even after the casinos are allowed to reopen. Even once that permission is given by the governor, I'm not sure that all casinos will reopen. Even if all do, I don 't think they will have as many customers as they had before, because of the fear factor. What I think is highly possible is that the casinos might send free-room offers to existing/former customers who have NOT come back within a month or two. Some might even send free-room offers right when they reopen. They will reason that they need to create an incentive that is bigger than the customer's fear. They might even throw in some food credit or even some FreePlay. Thus, I don't think it would be wise to hit the hotel/casinos immediately, but you should wait a while. I don't think the number of patrons during the 1st month after reopening will be anywhere near the pre-outbreak number, and the casinos will want to stay afloat, so they will do whatever is necessary.

    Why return to vegas?
I get the most liberal DD. BJ rules here locally. (better than Dreamon casino) No 6/5 BJ here, no resort fees, no panhandlers, looser slots, no parking fees, no timeshare hawkers, better comps and perks. Have not been to Vegas in nearly 5 years. Use to travel to Vegas 6 times a year to gamble. One local casino comps me one trip a year to Vegas, I've yet to use it. There is better shopping and fine dining in Vegas, but for gambling there is a much better alternative.

    Key word
The key word in this question is "normal". What is the definition of " normal " and who defines it. I wish I was there now, though impossible. I will wait until Vegas is proven to be safe - whenever that might be.

Jack Benny may be gone but his ambivalence lives on.
    The commenter who wrote,

"bottom line - $$$ will makes my decision [to return to Vegas] for me"

reminds me that when a mugger threatened Jack Benny with, "Your money or your life!" Jack Benny told the mugger,

    "I'm *thinking* ... I'm *thinking*."

    Don't bet against them
Vegas is Vegas, soon as the lockout is lifted it will not be long before they get back in the swing of things,..remember,Vegas always comes back,it never dies,..imagine what this city has gone through in the last decade, and they have always come out swinging. There will be some nice perks when they reopen, but don't expect them to flower you with them as you walk through the doors, just a little effort to find them,..but the day i canceled my March plans i instantly booked my September plans and my flight was already cheaper
