Question of the Day - 07 April 2021

Q:

Poll Preview: Will it be good or bad if Caesars runs the Venetian/Palazzo?

A:

This poll suggestion came from a reader and it's a good one. "Since it looks like Caesars will be running the Venetian/Palazzo, will it be the same, better, or worse in 12 months?" The reader added, "I think we know the answer, but the percentages might be interesting."

(We're sorry. We usually identify the submitter of a great poll idea by the first name and initial of the last name, but for the life of us, we can't find the email in the scores that we receive daily. If you submitted it, please comment and take credit. And no claiming credit where it isn't due! We'll know it when we see it.)

As is usually the case in simple polls such as this one, we hesitate to include all the reasons why the Venetian might be better, worse, or the same in the poll choices; there would be too many. For example, on the "worse" side, if Caesars runs the joint, it's likely that, at some point, they'll institute paid parking there for the first time. On the "same" side, it's hard to imagine that the size of the suites would change. And on the "better" side, players with Caesars Rewards earned around the country would certainly have a fabulous place to stay on the Las Vegas Strip using their points.

So for now, pending comments from y'all, we'll stick with the three: same, better, worse.

Let us know if you disagree and why. This poll will run a week from today.

Is a field better or worse...
...after a swarm of locusts descends on it?

Not to compare Caesars to a horde of ravenous insects or anything like that...

    Caesars is running it?
Maybe I missed a memo, but I thought it was just a REIT thing with Vici.

I had no idea Caesars was getting involved with the day to day operations.

    Will miss Sheldon
I am sorry to see the possibility of change so fast after the loss of Sheldon. Have always enjoyed our stay and the tournaments. My hope is they will not destroy a good thing. And no free parking, oh my!

    Worse
I can't think of any of their acquisitions they made better. Yes, I'm including the Imperial Palace in this. I see homogenized cost cutting in the future for both casinos.

    Venetian take over
I think that Caesars will drive it right into the ground......... How unfortunate as I love the Venetian/Palazzo.

    What Makes Las Vegas Great
The answer is competition. Competition in any industry makes it better for the consumer, any reduction in this is in my opinion bad. I really miss the old days when there was a lot of competition on the strip and it was wonderful.

    Tragic
I stopped going long ago to Caesars or any hotel related to it. The Venetian/Palazzo was my favourite on strip property and if Caesars get their mitts on it it will be a disaster. Caesars has become the McDonalds of casinos and not in a good way.

    Agree
There are so many reasons and so many preferences. There may be one thing you like (or dislike) that will tilt your opinion. So leave it at better, worse, same and let the comments say why. I'm guessing the bulk of the answers will be "worse". It's easier to dislike one or more things than it is to like everything.

    Venetian under Caesars
I believe that was my suggestion. Thanks for using it! I read your QoD every day. Great feature. - Thomas D.

    Yes, you did!
Thank you, Thomas D., for this poll suggestion and for letting us know it was you.

    Venetian under Caesars
As an aside, as I am a Poker Tournament player, I am mainly worried about the poker room - one of the better ones in Vegas, and hope they don't increase the juice that they take out of entry fees.

    Mr.
Considering that Caesars was bought out by Eldorado during the pandemic,I'm not even sure what Caesars is going to be like, post pandemic.

    Caesar's
There will be no change. ? Should read could things get worse they are 4-5 % less payback on slots compared to downtown and local casinos. Video poker. How could it get worse. Is there any playable vp on strip if you are playing less than 25-100 dollar level. They have even reduced payback on those machine. Again you do not attract customers with decrease playback decrease
Comps with parking fees and resort fees. I do agree they have good rooms. Their 75 dollar buffet? I guess my lock has been bad but when I do a walkthrough I do not see items you see on utube Most of time it is about level of Bellagio. Some better than Main Street Station when it was open This is just my opinion

There is no doubt Caesars has cut back on everything for loyal card members over recent years, but most of the those cutbacks I have seen were "following" cutbacks I saw on MGM. It's at the point I no longer go to any MGM property because of their attitude toward customers. No coffee machines. First to institute parking fees, resort fees, restriction of benefits throughout different cities in the country, ie. your LAS status does nothing for you in Detroit, etc. Main reason we don't frequent Venetian/Palazzo is the lack of other casinos affilitated with them throughout country. If Caesars under it's new management will stop taking away benefits and put back some from past years them taking over would be the best of all worlds!

    hmm
Well, one could think of Ven/Pal as being sandwiched between Caesars and MGM, conceptually. One of the few "themed" properties remaining; high end so to speak; good dining options; attractive interiors; every room a suite (though not really). Could these positive aspects give Eldorado pause should they start to map out some locust action, as Kevin mentions? Might they consider staying the course at least for a couple years, or even one year, to retain customer loyalty before dropping the cut-back bombs? I've not been a Ven/Pal customer so I have no knowledge how "loose" their slots are right now, the VP schedules, table minimums and payouts. I don't recall a TR where anybody raved about those things, i.e. "great VP." So, in 12 months, maybe the same to retain customers?

    Awww, forget that. Likely worse.

    The NEW Rio
    Maybe they'll add bevertainers!

  • jeepbeer Apr-07-2021
    it's on the Strip
and I usually avoid the Strip, but I wandered around this place a year ago, kinda nice. Will it get de-themed? What happens when you de-theme Italian? They'll get lots more square footage when they fill in those canals.

    Similar?
I think it could only be the 'Same' if the current management of this facility is left alone to run it as they have been. Otherwise, as your question notes, there are likely to be pluses and minuses that might balance out giving an overall similar experience, but not really the same.

You might get a little more clear set of results by asking for a 1-10 rating, where 1 = 'They will drive it into the ground' and 10 = 'This is the best possible hope to fix this place'. This would help those who expect modest changes in either direction.

    Caesars and Ven/Pal up/down/sideways
I've always thought of Ven/Pal as upper class. When Mr Adelson was alive, all through COVID, he took care of his employees, like ANY good owner would have. That didn't happen with other places. While I'd like to think that Caesars will take care of this place and NOT run it down, I'm sure (well, only 99%) they don't know how to keep a place up and have no desire to do so. Take and squeeze the money where they can, feed the bank accounts of all the top people, add more debt that will never be paid, and then jump ship. Hopefully they don't squeeze it like they did Rio and end up with a shell of a place. That would be sad on so many levels.

    KISS
I think you're right to Keep It Simple Stupid. There will be negative comments galore on this one, that is for sure. They should rename Caesar's... Mud seems appropriate.

    Be Real
I have not been a strip person for at least 8 years now,and with caesars getting their paws on another property is just another downfall.I am not a caesars fan at all ever since they started cutting me back on comps and such, and this all happened around 10 years or so,so the writing was on the wall that they were going to start gouging everybody. So being said not being a strip fan,i really don't know much about the Venetian, but if its how others said here, then you can bet caesars will ruin it totally.Caesars is just greedy how they keep buying up properties, and turning them into shit.Vegas was great when there were no one outfit owning multiple casinos and the boys from the midwest ran it.There were no problems like there is now,and instead of pushing people away they knew how to attract people instead. They took care of people and people kept coming back,Vegas is just a amusement park these days
