Question of the Day - 25 March 2020

Q:

Poll Preview: What's your favorite only-in-Vegas indulgence?

A:

This is a poll we like to run every few years. It not only gets a big response, but we like to see if indulgences change over time due to circumstances (mostly external). Also, given the current situation of the world in general and Las Vegas specifically, we figured it would be entertaining, or at least nostalgic, to remember the best times you've had here down through the years -- to say nothing of those to come when things get right-side up again.

This is the first time we've ever run a preview for the indulgence poll, so please, go wild with your suggestions! Ours is without doubt a partial list that needs improving from all you profligate and libertine wastrels, night owls, and debauchees. Thanks in advance.

    Swimming
I can’t spend a night in a casino hotel without using the pool. I’m often in & out in less than 30 minutes, but I gotta do it.

    Ummm....

How did ‘Pay for parking’ become an indulgence? Doesn’t mean ‘indulgence’ it’s something desirable?

  • Flaxx Mar-25-2020
    How about ...
Day drinking, 'cuz it's 9 am somewhere
Hit the spa, after the tables hit you
Resort fees! because I'm worth it, dammit
Tipping everyone excessively for anything because they're worth it, dammit

    Bulk Dining
Bulk Dining at its finest--How about throwing caution to the wind and pigging out at a huge buffet? Also, seeing one of the big production shows--only in Las Vegas!

    Vegas Isolation
No news from outside of Vegas gets to me while I'm in Vegas. What happens OUTSIDE VEGAS STAYS OUT OF VEGAS.

Every year we go to the Mandalay Bay wave pool. There is nothing like being in a front row lounge chair right next to the waves. We have done cabanas and Moorea Beach but they don’t compare. Having a morning cup of Starbucks sitting in a lounge chair when they first open, when it’s quiet, is heavenly.

    only in Vegas?
    Fremont Street Experience
Get Elvis to perform a wedding (or renewal of vows)
    World's largest (tacky) Gift Store
Walk around town (Strip or Downtown) with a drink in your hand
Play VP in a store (7-Eleven, Wal-Mart or any size in between)
There's more, but these are the "only Vegas" things I could think of right now.

    Using comps
Enjpy the different drinks during the day and night cap. Having some great meals using comps.

    One more indulgence
Eat whatever I want, whenever I want and as much as I want...Calories and Cholesterol don't count in Las Vegas.

    Example:

Breakfast - Jamm's Restaurant for a Country Skillet and "Pot O' Bread"

Lunch - about 5 White Castle Cheeseburgers and Fries.

Dinner - A 1 lb Rib Eye with the BLUE CHEESE CRUST at Binion's (With the MRB 25% discount of course!)

Finish off the day with a couple of hand-crafted beers at Chicago Brewing at the Four Queens

    That's my Las Vegas indulgence!!!

    Drinking on the Street
Being able to drink on the street, whether it's on the strip or along Flamingo as we walk from the Strip down to Ellis Island and the Tuscany. Pretty sure I can't come out of the local 7-11 and openly drink a 40 ounce as I walk back to my house. Drinking on the monorail is totally fine in Vegas, but can't do that on the bus back home. Can you take your drink on the Deuce?

  • Jersey Jeff Mar-25-2020
    Might not make the list.
"Illegal substances". Not for me of course! But I know others who might like to partake in certain illegal substances.

  • Chuck Mowery Mar-25-2020
    Chuck
Gamble for the most part; I still get a tasted for some White Castle's and can get some at the Casino Royale.

  • MeBlonde Mar-25-2020
    Chilean Sea Bass
I look forward to one expensive buffet, the Bellagio where I can get all the seafood I like especially, my favorite, Chilean Sea Bass. It's always the real thing and tastes great.

    Expensive Buffet
We spend WAAAY more on a meal than we would otherwise.

Zippin along no longer the straggler
1-I lost a leg to cancer and radiation Dec 2018. During 2019 vegas trip, I rented a scooter and regained a measure of mobility. Better half couldn't keep up, wind in my hair and silver alert in my future.
2-i have not visited shooting ranges in NV, but poker buddy's ex-military son always figures into his LV budget a trip to range to use weapons he hasn't access to at home.
    3-Pretend I'm a George.

    Scratch on the plane
No, we don't bring cooties on board. We buy $100 in scratch off tickets before the trip, wait for drink service to begin, then scratch away. Adds a bit of pre-casino fun during the flight. Plus, if we win some, which we usually do, we can't cash it, i.e. blow it, it until we return home.

  • Dave in Seattle. Mar-25-2020
    VP,guns,beer.
Boars Head Bar and 9/6 VP with comp beers @ MSS. Also, their buffet.
    BJ at El Cortez.
Machine Guns Vegas or The Gun Store.
Used to go to Cheri's Ranch in Pahrump but now ,it's WAY too expensive.
Smoke cigarettes indoors, drink beer in the FSE.
TRY to keep regular hours. Yeah, right.
A massage on second floor at The El Cortez because my neck/back and feet hurt.Carry $2 bills for tips.

    Buffets?
The only time I ever go to a buffet is in Las Vegas. I don't think Souplantation really counts.

  • Kevin Rough Mar-25-2020
    In-n-Out
We don't have In-n-Out Burger in the East, so that is my only in Vegas indulgence.

And I pay for parking at home all of the time.

  • Teeye Mar-25-2020
    Breakfast
Breakfast each morning at Siegel's 1941.

  • Mar-26-2020
    Cheap AYCE Buffets
You didn't actually list what I've always considered to actually be the most distinctive thing about Las Vegas: Being able to eat at an all-you-can-eat buffet for a low price, less than you would expect to pay for a single regular meal at a restaurant back home.

  • Jonathan Selavka Mar-26-2020
    Adult Topless Shows
Although you listed 'Male Revue' I was surprised to see that attending one of the various Adult Topless Shows which feature female entertainers wasn't already on the list, as that tends to be something you only find offered in Vegas.

    nO NEWS IS gOOD NEWS
I'm a news junky @ home. Very seldom even turnon TV in Vegas. No news good or bad & especially NO POLITICS>
