Question of the Day - 23 January 2019

Q:

Reader Poll Preview: How often do you use coupons when you come to Las Vegas?

A:

It’s still early in the year and a lot of LVA members have received their 2019 Member Reward Books. We’re wondering: Do coupons still rule? So we’re asking: How often do you use coupons when you come to Las Vegas?

Since this is the preview for next week's poll, please let us know if your coupon habits aren't represented in the following choices and if not, tell us what they are in the comment boxes so we can include them.

All the time. Never embarrassed to try and get more out of Vegas than it gets out of me.

I'd like to use more coupons, but most seem to be 2-for-1 and I come to Vegas alone.

I'm only interested in the gambling coupons –- free slot play, match plays etc.

I use coupons for big things like 2-for-1 shows, but feel cheap using small ones.

I use coupons when I'm on my own, but I don't feel comfortable using them when I have guests.

I don't even know where to get coupons, but I'd use them if I did.

I'd like to see more Printable Rewards during the year (for LVA members)

I'd be more interested in line passes for clubs than money-off coupons. I hate to wait in line.

I never use coupons.

If "only the gambling coupons" is important, so are "only the twofers" and "only the shows" and "only the accommodations".
We try to use all the coupons for any property we visit.

    Coupon runs
How about I go on coupon runs or I just use them when it is part of my plans or an easy diversion.

    "Never" variations
Maybe you would like to know *why* some people never use coupons. For some, saving a few dollars here or there isn't worth going somewhere or doing something that is otherwise unappealing (as in, I wouldn't see that show even with a 100% off coupon). Also, people with specific reasons for visiting Vegas may have agendas that don't include the types of activities or places that offer coupons (like shooting dice, meeting people, elegant dining, etc). Finally, many tourists limit themselves to the Strip, which does not offer (and does not need to offer) many coupons. After all, to use different coupons in different places requires traveling by car, an extra expense that may nullify the value of a coupon. Maybe work some of those reasons into your responses?

    subdivide
Avoid edifying selections. Example: "I use coupons for big things like 2 for 1 shows, but feel cheap using small ones."

    Better:
     - I use high value coupons such as 2 for 1 shows.
     - I feel cheap using using small value coupons.

Dividing an answer into "but" or "unless" can stop me from selecting it, as the first half may be true, but not the "but" or "unless" part. JMHO.

Thanks. Must be quite a job composing these polls to everyone's satisfaction.

    The LVA coupons are great
I use the LVA and American Casino Guide coupons all the time. Businesses put those out there to be used. If they benefit you, use 'em.

Now, I only use coupons of things that I would do anyway, I don't do something simply because there is a coupon, that would be silly.

    A good enticement
Food/gambling coupons will often get me to go to a casino I probably wouldn't have visited w/o them.

    When to use coupons
I think, in relation to the comment about non-strip and various other reasons, that convenience is important. Is the value of the coupon worth what it takes to use it?

ALWAYS USE THEM!!!! I agree with the statement: Never embarrassed to try and get more out of Vegas than it gets out of ME!!!!!

    coupons
maybe how much effort do you put in? I use them when convenient but won't go to far just because I have one. right on about the 2fers, that's fine for a couple but worthless for singles and a hassle for a group

    Poor wording of choices
Agree that the canned answers are much too restrictive, i.e. "I use coupon X but I feel uncomfortable using coupon Y." Why the combination? Just offer a set of choices asking for the preferences or feelings about each type of coupon. If that's the kind of data you are trying to collect.

For me, without a doubt, the LVA and ACG coupons have gotten us out into the outlying areas of LV, and as a result we really "know our way around" LV now. We try to hit all casinos that provide gambling coupons. Every single one. The Boyd's, the Stations, the Cannery's, Lucky Club, Longhorn, we've been to 'em all. And our visits now always include spending time exploring the community.

We use as many gambling coupons as I can, and whatever dining coupons are convenient. We read Jean Scott's columns and collect all the casino freebies and promos.

No one "feels cheap" or "uncomfortable" using a coupon in LV. Why would you even suggest that? Coupons and promos are why LVA continues to exist!

Always look for and use coupons
    May want to add
"I always use coupons when I can, don't care who I am with, or how I "look"...bring 'em on!"
"Use only coupons that are valid for one person"

Suggest an open-ended questions for "I never use coupons". I'd like to get a handle on their rationale. Do they feel they look "cheap", etc.

    Re:PrintableRewards
Not really part of this survey, but I have a comment about Printable Rewards.
I print out coupons when I'm home to use when I get here. However, when I'm here for an extended stay (up to nine weeks; I'm a snowbird 🙂), I don't have access to a printer. Are the PRs available in a format that I can download on my phone to be scanned by the venue? If not, would you please provide such a format in the near future? Thanks.

    Coupon Use
My category would be: I use coupons at all the places I go, but I usually don't go out of my way to use them. (Palms was an exception for some trips.) E.g. We don't always go downtown, but if we do we usually do a "mini" coupon run.

    Love coupons
I use the coupons in the member reward book whenever I can. I have found most 2 for 1 coupons will not let me get half off when I am a single. Also, sometimes I forget to bring the whole coupon book and would like it if you could adapt the system American Casino Guide uses and that is a card you carry with you to use the coupons, not the whole book. Also, I ask for coupons or discounts whenever I can as every little bit helps. Thanks for all the great coupons.

Sometimes making a decision where to go eat or gamble depends on where I have a coupon.

    coupons
my wife and I try to use as many as possible, we make a game out of it. If we go to the strip we plan it around the coupons.

My wife and I always rent a car when we are in Vegas. We like to "get out and about". This also gives us the opportunity to maximize our use of the MRB book.My question is, have you tried to get any rental car companies to give any discounts that could be added to the MRB?
