Question of the Day - 14 August 2019

Q:

Reader Poll Preview: Las Vegas restaurants with the best view.

Also, your link to the current reader poll: What Las Vegas steakhouse is the best overall with value as the primary consideration?

A:

Last month, the online restaurant-reservation platform OpenTable released a list of the nation's 100 most scenic restaurants, based on reviews collected from diners. The four that made the list in Las Vegas included the Eiffel Tower Restaurant at Paris (which occupies the 11th floor of the tower overlooking the Bellagio Fountains);  Giada at the Cromwell (which sits on the second floor diagonally across from the Fountains); Mon Ami Gabi at Paris (with its people-watching patio); and Hell's Kitchen at Caesars (which stumped us).

We're not unaware that the OpenTable list is the result of a less-than-scientific survey. Still, we were so surprised by the winners that we figured we'd see how our poll respondents rated OpenTable's choices as compared to all the other possibilities.

The following are our contenders for best-view honors; OpenTable's four are included in the interest of correlation accuracy. Also like the OpenTable selections, we're not concerned here with the relative merits of the food and prices, just the view.

The actual poll will run next week; today, we're looking for more choices.

Beer Park at Paris (second-floor outdoor deck)

Eiffel Tower Restaurant at Paris

Foundation Room (64th floor at Mandalay Bay)

Giadia at the Cromwell

Hell’s Kitchen at Caesars

Marché Bacchus (on the lake at Desert Shores)

Mercato Della Pescheria (St. Marks Square, Grand Canal Shoppes)

Mizumi (on the lake at the Wynn)

Mon Ami Gabi at Paris

Oscar’s Steakhouse (view of Fremont Street Experience at the Plaza)

Picasso (for the artwork and Fountains view)

Prime Steakhouse at Bellagio (Fountains view)

Restaurant Guy Savoy (second floor at Caesars with views of the Fountains and Eiffel Tower)

Rivea/Skyfall Lounge (64th floor of the Delano)

Senor Frogs (outdoor deck at Treasure Island)

Spago at Bellagio (with a patio 10 feet from the Fountains)

Top of Binion's Steakhouse

Top of the World at Stratosphere

Twist by Pierre Gagnaire/Skybar (23rd floor of the Waldorf Astoria)

Vetri Cucina (56th floor of the Palms)

Voodoo Steakhouse (50th floor, Rio)

We veered a little off schedule the last time, because we didn't need a preview for the previous poll on which Las Vegas Strip casino(s) the new Caesars Entertainment, after its merger with Eldorado Resorts, should dump. So today we've got the new poll preview and the link to the current reader poll: What Las Vegas steakhouse is the best overall with value as the primary consideration, and the link to the Caesars poll results.

This poll will run for a week, then we'll get back on track next week with this rooms-with-a-view survey.

    another Fountains view
Jasmine (Bellagio) for another up close and personal Fountains experience. The music is played when they run. Hint: the best views are NOT by the windows closest to the fountains.

    Endless Choices
I think steak emporiums have become more quintessential Las Vegas than buffets.

    My favorites:
THE Steakhouse at Circus Circus. This is a great steakhouse that I bet most people don't know exists. If they do, they don't believe that it could be good since it's in Circus Circus. They could not be more wrong.

Hugo's at the Four Queens. Again it's kind of hidden downstairs and most people don't think they are going to find a great steak place in the Four Queens. The table side salad bar is worth the trip in itself.

Redwood Steakhouse. This steakhouse in the California has been recently remodeled. The menu has also been completely overhauled. This was always a good option for a reasonably good steak at a very reasonable price. It is now a great option for as good a steak and accompaniments as you are going to get anywhere, and it still is very reasonably priced. It don't think there is a better steak meal for the money anywhere in Las Vegas.

Strip Burger and Chicken in the Fashion Show mall has a nice street-level view on the strip at Fashion Show Mall Drive. Prices are reasonable too.

The buffet at the M Resort. Looking north you get a somewhat distant view of the strip and downtown Las Vegas.

    best view restaurants
This may be odd, but I have always enjoyed eating at Magnolia's in 4 Queens, where the front tables give you a view of the casino, old style
