Question of the Day - 26 December 2018

Q:

Reader Poll Preview: How many times do you plan on visiting Las Vegas in 2019?

A:

We last ran this poll more than four years ago and we're looking to see if you've changed your Vegas visiting habits. This will be highly instructive to us in terms of our own projections of visitor counts this year.

The question is: How many times do you plan to visit Las Vegas in 2019?

This is just the preview of the poll that will run a week from today, January 2. Did we miss any choices?

I generally visit Las Vegas several (three or more) times per year, and will be keeping to the same plan in 2019.

I will definitely make at least one trip to Las Vegas this year.

I usually visit Las Vegas once each year, but I haven’t decided yet if I will in 2019 (and please tell us why in the comment boxes).

I live in Las Vegas.

I'd like to, but I won't be visiting Las Vegas in 2019, due to circumstances (health, finances, family/work commitments, other travel, etc.)

I no longer visit Las Vegas, due to resort and parking fees, airfare costs, the nightclub scene, gambling and comp cutbacks, etc.

I still come to Las Vegas, but would be there more often if it was not for the resort fees, reduced offers, and poor rules on various gambling options!

    Longer Stay
Looking at possibly three trips in 2019. Hoping the third trip is a long stay. Goal is the get back to dealing blackjack at a local casino.

    half done
You're really only asking half the question -- is that more, less, or the same as last year.

    Already booked for New Years...
Jan 1-3, off-strip; another highly likely near the Rio for the WSOP, even if we have to pay the dreaded resort fee; and probably more if the comp offers keep coming at my present level of play. Exact numbers depend on political/economic factors, and on how certain well-publicized rewards program changes develop (you'd recognize the name).

Just heard that two of our favorite places in Laughlin have been sold, and there's no way of knowing how that will work out. If I had to guess, I'd say, "not good."

Actually, resort fees are now widespread in Laughlin, but I didn't know it (honest!) because we either got comped, or stayed at one of the two remaining places without them. But if Laughlin continues down the slippery slope, it's more likely to redirect us back to the Phoenix area than back to Vegas--the Desert Diamond expansion opens sometime next year (they say) less than ten miles from the house.

Holiday greetings and best wishes to all for the new year.

    stays
maybe an extra trip this year, but my trips are more about me than other factors. Guess I just accept resort fees as part of the bill, rooms are still cheap.

    Fumb Duck
I haven't been to Vegas in two years. I have been playing the casinos near San Diego. I stay at a motel, get decent comps for my level of play, decent BJ (at $25 min. 3:2), they act like they appreciate my business and my tips. I may be back to Vegas, I have friends there, but not certain how soon.

    Need Frequency, Not Number
I was going to comment the same as Grant, what you also need to know is if the number of planned visits is more than, less than, or the same as in prior years. I've definitely decreased my visits per year due to their corporate greed and tight machine payouts. No fun to lose all your money in a very short time, then be charged a resort fee plus parking fees to further degrade the experience.

    trips
I live less than two hours away but since the cost of going has increased (resort fees, parking etc.)and the slot club benefits have decreased the 1 to 2 hr road trip is no fun anymore. My Vegas trips have already been cut back by one half from about 20 per year and will be cut back by one half or more again in 2019.

    Poll
I will be there 3 times in 2019! Typically, I'm there twice, one of which is "work" for conferences. hehe..."work"

    Less than
I guess my curiosity is to know if other people will be going less often than usual. So another option would be to alter that last choice from no longer visit to visit less often due to those reasons. (as Ed said!)

    gotta laugh
It always amazes me that when you do the preview to a question, some of the comments are actually their answer for the real poll that isn't until next week and not a suggestion for adding to the choices. I think the critical info is the comparison in visits from year to year as pointed out by more than one suggester (also how many days you stay) and why the difference if there is a change in habits.

    For 2019
Give a range of planned visits in 2019 without the commentary:
None, one time, 2-3 times, more than four times.

I plan more visits in 2019 than last year (or previous years).
I plan fewer visits in 2019 last year (or previous years).

I do not plan to visit Las Vegas in 2019 due to (select all that apply):
     - Resort fees
     - Parking fees
     - Airfare costs
     - The nightclub scene (?)
     - Comp cutbacks
     - Health-age/illness/difficult to navigate travel
     - Problem gambling
     - Finances (job loss, financial setback, etc.)
     - Non-Las Vegas casino markets are more affordable
     - Easier/closer travel to non-Las Vegas casino markets
     - Other (specify)

But then again, it is your poll! Thanks.

  • Llew Dec-26-2018
    How about....
....my visit(s) be longer than previous visits
....my visit(s) will be shorter than previous visits
....my visit(s) will be about the same length as previous visits

  • Gator Girl Dec-26-2018
    Frequency
There should be an option for "not every year". I usually go every two or three years, since I live clear across the country and have other vacation destinations. I'm not planning on going next year, but that's because I just went a couple of months ago.

  • [email protected] Dec-26-2018
    Choices
Why not list 1, 2, 3, 4, 5+ ? Right now you don't have a satisfactory response for the twice a year visitor (get lumped in with the 1 or more category).

    Reader pole suggestion
As a couple people mentioned, Change "several" to separate choices. such as...3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 8+. I don't think I am your only reader that goes 7 or 8 times a year.
