Question of the Day - 06 March 2019

Q:

Reader Poll Preview: When do you most like to come to Las Vegas?

A:

Las Vegas is busy year-round, but some periods are busier, or slower, than others. We're curious about your preferred visiting times: busy or slow, weekends or weekdays, holidays and three-day weekends, major events, conventions, Golden Week (just before Christmas), hot weather or cold, etc.

Feel free to add your suggestions for our visit-Las Vegas poll, which will run next week.

Friday-Saturday

Sunday-Thursday

Thanksgiving weekend

Golden Week (between NFR and Christmas)

The week between Christmas and New Year's

Martin Luther King three-day weekend

Super Bowl

Valentine's Day

Presidents three-day weekend

March Madness

Easter

Memorial Day weekend

July 4th

Labor Day weekend

spring and/or fall

summer

winter

I love coming to Las Vegas all days of the week, any time of year, crowded or dead.

    WSOP
I know it is summer, but during the WSOP

  • Russell Beyer Mar-06-2019
    WSOP
Agreed - the one time a year that I must visit is during the World Series of Poker

  • Frank Weston Mar-06-2019
    Spring and Fall
Ideally we would go late April/early May and again October. Another prime time for us is during NFR.

    G2E
G2E, or for any other convention that I’m attending. IE, not necessarily dates that I would prefer but dates someone else picked.

    Best part is not leaving.
We've lived here many years now and that is the best part; not having to go home somewhere else.

    changes
With age comes wisdom, but also fatigue, procrastination, etc. that makes the hurry-up to get ready to fly out less enjoyable.

I think I found the answer...Fly in Monday and back home on Sunday. We have all weekend to relax and get packed. Flight is normally mid morning (and cheaper), arrives in Las Vegas early afternoon so a whole day isn't wasted traveling and being tired on arrival.

With all that said, the Sunday through Thursday option is next best among those proposed. Occasionally the air fare favors flying out on Sunday, so that works too. We usually want to stay 5 or 6 nights.

WNFR week. The only time we visit now that Helldorado Rodeo is gone.

    One more possible addition
May want to add "Slower periods between large conventions"

I want to avoid crowds and get cheaper room rates. I always come during "Golden Week", but also come other times but only when it looks "slower". NEVER during a big convention.

I look at convention schedules and the comparative room rates. Lower room rates tend to reflect the less active, smaller convention, periods.

Always come in on a Sunday, and fly back by Friday, again, less expensive and less crowded.

    Poll: When tovisit
I’d suggest adding: For our anniversary; for a birthday; December (for rodeo); when prices are cheapest (summer heat; mid December); whenever I get an invitation to a tournament.

    Expand Spring & Fall
Our favorite time of the year to come is "anytime except summer". And as "dead" as possible. Only exception is if we schedule around a particular "show" we want to see - i.e. limited performances, Smith Center, etc.

  • Patrick Jaeger Mar-06-2019
    NFL
I enjoy going anytime in the fall and bet on NFL games.

    VisitingVegas
We always come out for March Madness and Halloween. And seem to find other reasons, such as WSOP to visit.

    poll ideas
For conventions, dates which are set by the convention folks.

How about those of us who have a residence in Las Vegas, but do not live here full time. We travel back and forth to our main residence in LA all year round. Also there are a lot of snow birds that have a home in Vegas that they use for a couple of months to avoid their bad weather. We try to avoid July/August. If the town is ultra busy, we avoid going to the strip.

    When snakes are lethargic
Wife and I visited frequently from 85 on, but always when teacher/coach work schedules allowed: summer, Christmas, spring break. Since '14 retirement we visit winter to early spring and hike daily at Red Rock, Mt Charleston, Valley of Fire or Henderson bird refuge. We much prefer the cooler times of year. Enjoyed viewing Super Bowl 2017 with 1300 of our closest friends at Southpoint ballroom. March madness w/ golf buddies on bucket list.

    Conventions & summer
CES, SEMA always. Often in summer, I don't mind the heat and travel on up to Tahoe.

  • Ray Mar-06-2019
    "most like"
Since the preview is about when we most like to visit Vegas, you're apparently looking for a preference, not just when we actually come. The only thing I can say is I have 2 things about going to Vegas, 1) When I have a reason to go, and 2) when I DON'T have a reason to go. I guess what it means is, if either my wife or I say "gee, we haven't been to Vegas in awhile. Let's go".

  • O2bnVegas Mar-06-2019
    SEMA
I should have also mentioned SEMA, a must do for husband.

NASCAR used to be a must do, though not lately. Maybe for some.

"Golden Week" is also very desirable.

  • Dave in Seattle. Mar-06-2019
    Twice.
March and October.Avoiding large conventions.Avoiding extreme heat.

Our "Golden Week" is after Thanksgiving weekend and before the NFR.

  • Randall Mar-06-2019
    NFL Playoffs
The first weekend of the playoffs. Two games on Saturday and two on Sunday. Normally falls in line with the weekend after Elvis's birthday.

  • doggieman Mar-07-2019
    Best times
Tuesday-Saturday for the best airfares and decent room rates!
