Question of the Day - 25 June 2020

Q:

Now that Las Vegas is opening up after the great pandemic shutdown of 2020, are Member Rewards coupons being accepted? Is it even appropriate to use the coupons as businesses are trying to recover?

And

I'm wondering, wouldn't it be great if a casino's buffet coupon could be used for a BOGO in one of their restaurants, if they're closing their buffets? My girlfriend and I go to many different buffets all day, every day, since there are so many good ones in your coupon book. But if some of the buffets are being closed, what good is the coupon?

And

What will happen to the people who ordered and received the Las Vegas Advisor from the UK or Canada and will not be able to use it because of the closed borders?
A:

As is apparent, we continue to receive questions about coupons. We answered several during the shutdown and now that the world is reopening, we'll do so again, in order.

First, for sure Member Rewards Book coupons are being accepted everywhere that's open. We've had several reports that they are and none that they aren't.

Second, we don't see why it wouldn't be appropriate to use them. As businesses recover, they want, more than anything, to see people come through their front doors. Discounting is a way of life in retail and as businesses get up to speed, they want to engage in business as usual.

Third, that said, we agree that it would be great if the casinos would honor 2-for-1 buffet coupons at other restaurants. But for numerous reasons on the casinos' part (accounting, retraining staff amidst ongoing confusion of reopening with many new guidelines, and reprogramming point-of-sale systems, foremost among them), they're understandably averse to get into it.

For our part, the last thing we want to do is go back to the casinos that are generous to us and our members year after year and ask for more. Putting together the coupon package is the most demanding of all the myriad tasks we perform every year and trying to renegotiate after a nearly three-month shutdown is nothing to be relished by either us or them.

It's true that some MRB coupons aren't good now and of those, some won't be between now and the end of the year. But many others are and can and should be used -- except, of course, by subscribers who can't even enter the country. For those of you who aren't coming to Las Vegas this year, including Canadians and Brits, we can only reiterate our refund policy:

1. Return your unused MRB for a refund. We will refund in full if you're a Diamond member (online only) and on a prorated basis if you're a Platinum member and receive issues in the mail.

2. Exchange your unused 2020 MRB for 2021. In order to do this, your membership must extend into 2021. If your membership expires in 2020, that means you never had the 2021 option and must renew.

Please note that for both refunds and exchanges, it's your responsibility to return the unused MRB, either dropped off in person or delivered by mail. We will waive the coupon-service fee when mailing of the 2021 MRB is requested.

    COUPONS
Hats off to LVA ... very reasonable and considerate options regarding the coupon books! Another example of how Anthony and staff got to the "top of the heap".

    Coupons
I agree with Paul. LVA is top notch and I'd rather eat my unused coupons than ask LVA for a refund. The LVA and MRB are still one of the best deals out there!!

    MRB coupons
come on folks...have some compassion...we should all be able to take a bit of a hickey regarding our LVA deals...would wager LVA's profit margin is tight to begin with and now we're looking to tighten it even more because of a two-fer coupon being obsolete...please show some loyalty and let is slide a little this time...geez folks...wah wah wah...we should all re-up for new subscriptions and buy some great books at bargain prices... come on people...get your ducks in a row and priorities right.. now's the time to SUPPORT LVA, not try and weasel discounts and deals...shameful...yet we'll (not me!!!) make tons of dumb bets and p*** away lots of money and then try and pick anthony's pockets...shame shame shame...oh well, so much for class and loyalty in the name of the almighty buck...

    Cupons
Even though we buy the LVA books to save money, I don't expect you to refund my money. This darn virus is not your fault. I love what you do, and know that this will effect your bottom line. None of us want you to have to go out of business. If our small part by not asking for refunds help you recover, I'm all for it.

    Yay LVA
Hey, even with the reduced opportunities, an LVA coupon book is still worth a bunch--MUCH more than you pay for it.

Anyone bitching about not being able to use buffet coupons would likely, if a casino was obliterated by a meteor that created a hundred-foot-deep crater, want a $5 credit for the free drink coupon he can no longer use.

    LVA coupon book
I agree with all the other comments. Wasn't the coupon book just $3.50? If people took the time and effort they spend whining about things and actually go out and do something good for someone else, it would show some help for this crazy world we're living in right now.

    Thanks LVA
I too appreciate having LVA around for all the various resources they provide, and enjoy a coupon run or two each year making use of the book. I'm happy to find myself in a good place these days, and if I don't end up using the book, I can let it go and write it off as support for an organization I appreciate.
I cannot, however judge those who are asking the question, as I am not in their shoes. LVA is taking good care of those who want and/or need relief, and I can recognize their class without throwing rocks at those who feel it necessary to ask these questions. Can we cool the nasty rush to judgement?

    Coupon Policy
LVA is one of the most wonderful parts of my visit to Las Vegas and my daily trip to the QOD ain't chopped liver either! Thank you so much for showing us your generosity in this refund policy.
