Question of the Day - 14 August 2024

Q:

I went to print out the 2-for-1 Member Rewards Online coupon for the AYCE Buffet at the Palms. Your system told me that I'd already printed it, but I know I didn't. Digging deeper, I saw that if you hit the Print button without printing a coupon, you can't go back in and print it. If possible, LVA could put a highlight next to the printable coupons to let people know that once you hit print, you have to print it or the next time, it will come up used.

A:

Yes, that's how our system operates. It happens primarily to members who don't read the instructions on the Member Rewards Online page.

To wit: "Note that the moment you click Print Coupon, our system registers the coupon as printed, whether or not it was actually printed. And you can print a coupon only once per calendar year. Call us during office hours if you need assistance."

Fact is, it's this way for a very good reason. If we allowed people to click Print more than once, that would be begging the scammers to abuse the coupon.

In the backend of our system, we can see that you hit Print, but not that you didn't actually print out a coupon. It would be a distinct invasion of our customers' privacy if we could determine what your computers communicated to your printers. We're also reasonable enough to understand that people click Print without reading all the details.

That's why we can reset your coupon if you call and explain what happened. We do it fairly frequently. And with the AYCE coupon, it must be redeemed at the Serrano Players Club booth at the Palms, which adds a second level of security against the ignominious coupon abusers.

    The Coupon
This problem could become moot if instead of the coupon being an online coupon if the coupon was in the MRB.

I believe the LVA folks have mentioned a number of times that the reason they went to an online 30-day-in-advance print version was to appease the Palms folks that they were doing what they could to prevent abuse.

    Not Only Abuse
The MRO also gives casinos like the Palms more flexibility: They can change the coupon, eliminate the coupon, etc. at will and we can update or delete it immediately. When it's in the MRB, it's carved in concrete for the whole year and is much more complicated to remove. With the MROs, they have a choice between the MRB and no coupon at all. We believe that, especially with an $80 value like the AYCE coupon, that's worth the "problem."

    why
-When it's in the MRB, it's carved in concrete for the whole year and is much more complicated to remove-

Then why have the MRB at all as this though process would apply to all MRB's.

I think David's solution is the most logical with it as an online coupon. And take a step further, make the entire collection of LVA coupons online only with a scan code with an app for users to redeem. LVA can add, remove, change coupons at any time. No coupon books to mail either, saving logistics, mailing time and postage cost, printing costs and so on. This leads to more profit for LVA and-or perhaps less cost for the customer. And easy maintenance for LVA. 21st century model, food for thought. Best to you.
