I'm wondering if the rental car center at LAS is a moneymaker for whoever operates it. I see on my upcoming car rental I'll be paying close to $50 to that facility. I realize that there are a lot of expenses on their end, but it seems with $5.50 per car per day going to that place, they might actually be turning a profit. I long for the days pre-COVID when a rental car in Vegas was a bargain.
Reid International Airport spokesperson Amanda Mazzagatti wrote us to say, “The Rental Car Center is owned and operated by the Clark County Department of Aviation. However, space in it is leased by individual car-rental companies.
"For fiscal year 2023, the Rental Car Center’s revenue was $86.6 million.”
Mazzagatti didn't mention whether or not the Rental Car Center is profitable. However, considering that a percentage of the proceeds from fees go toward paying off various and sundry bonds over and above operating expenses, we consider it safe to assume that it does, indeed, operate in the black.
