Question of the Day - 18 June 2020

Q:

How long have you been running Question of the Day?

A:

We ran the very first Question of the Day on May 15, 2004 -- so we recently passed QoD's 16th anniversary. The question was, "What is Question of the Day?"

Here's the answer, which gives you an idea of how closely Anthony Curtis' original vision for this feature has remained intact:

QoD is LVA’s QED, a daily FAQ, FYI.

Three hundred sixty-five days a year, until further notice or Doomsday, we’ll be posting a question regarding just about anything having to do with Southern Nevada, gambling, Huntington Press books, non-HP books, LVA-connected people, personalities in the news, etc. After 21 years in this business, we’ve amassed a collection of literally tens of thousands of requests for information and more pour in by the hour. This space is where we’ll answer and archive them for all to see, and each day it’ll grow into an online symposium on all things Las Vegas and gambling.

Most of the answers will come from our own collective knowledge and research, but we’ll also send out questions to be answered by noted experts in different fields. These contributors will be recognized in our "Board of Experts," and called upon again in the future. Some of the early questions and answers will come from our archives. However, we’ll eventually take on the toughest and most research-intensive questions as they're put forward by our readers.

You can send in your own questions — general or specific — by simply hitting the "Submit a Question of the Day" button. We won’t answer your question personally, but will put it in the queue for consideration as a future Question of the Day. Remember to check QoD every day to see if your question has been answered.

Each day we’ll also post the next day’s question, but you’ll have to come back tomorrow for the answer.

Back to 2020. Thanks for asking. It gave us a chance to remember a much more innocent time.

    Keep up the fine work
QoD has gone through different editors and contributors, but has always been a great way of seeing Vegas. The diversity of interests of the questions made sure everyone saw questions they enjoyed. Keep up the EXCELLENT work!

    why not on holidays
First, I really appreciate all you do on the QoD's. But I always wondered. Since there is such a backlog of questions, and since most or all of the research has been done on many of them, (and since, in your answer, the original idea says 365 days per year), why doesn't someone just plug in the answer to a question on holidays? It shouldn't take any more time to do that than it does to plug in "Happy Easter" or whatever holiday. After all, you have tried to clear up a little backlog by having a question AND a poll on the same day, so why not on July 4th, etc.?

    Hottest ticket in town
QoD by itself is worth the price of admission.

What's the top priority when arriving home after a vacation?
     - Sort laundry? No.
     - Check the mail? No
     - Phone a friend? Hell no.
     - Log into LVA and go through the QoD Archives? YES!!!!

Then life can begin again. LOL.

A QoD a day keeps the guys in white coats away
It's amazing the number of times the QoD has been about something I've always wanted to know but never asked anyone about. Nothing like insider knowledge!

    thank you
As with the others thank you for question of the day. Your start date is close to my first visit with my sons in 2003 and later joining the LVA. Always interesting and at times historic.
