Question of the Day - 02 September 2025

Q:

Questions. We get lots and lots of questions.

A:

So in the extremely unlikely event that the Survivor contest comes down to two people and both pick losing teams, what would happen? Technically, it could be ruled there were no survivors and therefore no money awarded, but I doubt that would happen.

According to the rules, in the event of any tie, the prize money is split between (two) or among (more than two) winners -- or in this case, surviving losers. Last year, the grand prize of $10 million was split eight ways among winners; all eight had perfect 20-0 records. Each received  $1,783,250.

I know that the Monorail's days are numbered, but wasn't there a plan to build a new station near Sphere when the arena opened? It's been a couple of years since then. Has there been any update on the new station?

Well, a monorail station at Koval near the Wynn makes a lot of sense. Besides an easy trip to Sphere, this station would also provide convenient access to the Wynn-Encore, Palazzo, Venetian, and the Venetian Expo convention center. Sphere visitors could park for free at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Westgate, or Sahara and ride the Monorail to any and all of those for $5.50.

The plans for that station were approved by Clark County in December 2018. But due to COVID, the monorail shut down in March 2020, then filed for bankruptcy (for the second time) in September. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority now owns and operates the system, but the primary reason it bought it was to eliminate the non-compete clause that disallows any development of a parallel transportation system; the LVCVA has since thrown its full support behind the Las Vegas Loop. Thus, the dream of opening the Koval/Wynn station has been canceled.

I have a lot of old issues of the Las Vegas Advisor from back in the prehistoric times when they were printed on paper. I sometimes enjoy looking at them and seeing all the great shows I did or didn't see and the low prices for shows and meals. Is there any chance you'll make PDF scans of all your old issues available?

We made the decision a long time ago to post digital issues (pdfs and web-based) that go back as far as January 2000.

This is the first time, in our recall, that anyone has asked about the nearly 200 issues between 1984 and 1999 that remain as print only. That leads us to believe that, since issues are accessible all the way back to the turn of the millennium, any demand for the issues prior to that is negligible at best.

Still, since you ask, we'll put it out to QoDers/LVAers. How many of you'ens would be interested in the LVAs from 26 to 41 years ago? Let us know in the comments.

    Old timer
My friend and I shared the cost of an LVA subscription in 1988 or '89. We used her name and address for the subscription, she'd read it and then pass it along to me at the place where we both worked. She had seen an issue lying on a slot machine at either the Sands or the DI, how we first learned of it. I may still have one around my house, but good luck to me on finding it.

    I agree
It would be fun to read about the events and goings on from that period of time. Especially with griping of today.

  • VegasVic Sep-02-2025
    Yes
Please make all of them available, that would be great

  • Tim Soldan Sep-02-2025
    Back Issues
I vote yes on the back issues. It could be shared with other sites if you wanted to get wider exposure for the LVA, especially the vintage vegas types. Might lead to more subscribers.

  • Robert Byrne Sep-02-2025
    Yes Please!
Having first visited LV in 2003 and being a subscriber since then, I'd love to be able to look at issues prior to our first visit.

I think I started in 1993. Might be fun to pick out a few issues that highlight the old days, no need for all of them

    Questions
You say you have not have any requests for this. Are you sure? I have posted Questions to you several times and not had an acknowledgement

  • Laurence Martin Sep-02-2025
    old LVA
The Idea of doing the January issue of each year since it highlights the prior year should be a priority and as resources permit work back from 1999

  • Alan Canellis Sep-02-2025
    Save LVA
Yes, please scan in and preserve all of the back issues. Digital storage is cheap (relatively). Hopefully, they will become part of the internet archive (https://archive.org/). LVA is a great startinf source for researching Las Vegas.

  • Maggie Fisher Sep-02-2025
    old LVA printed
I would love to see the LVAs from 26 to 41 years ago. I don't remember exactly when I became a member, but I think it was over 25 years ago.

  • PaulaNH Sep-02-2025
    Old issues
YES! I would love that. Seeing all the things that I did ( and didn’t do, lol) back in the late ‘80’s forward would be great. I’m so old now I can’t remember half the stuff we did back then so it would be a nice walk down my gone memory lane.

  • Jeff B. Sep-02-2025
    Love to see old issues!
You're probably the most authentic recording of Vegas history. I turned 21 in 1987, which was the first time I came to Vegas. I found a YouTube video "tour" of the strip from that year, and would love to read about what I probably missed because I wasn't a subscriber!

  • Louis666 Sep-02-2025
    Would like it.
Yes I would love to see it. But know it's alot of time and effort on your part. Maybe just the January ones from each year would be nice.

  • Donzack Sep-02-2025
    Yes
    I live in the past

  • Edso Sep-02-2025
    Would love it!
I'd love to be able to access the issues from the mid to late 80s when I turned 21, just to see the prices of things back then.

    Time and $’s
Cool if you have the time and dollars to accomplish it. Not cool if you raise the rates to do it.

  • Susan Johnson Sep-02-2025
    Tes, please
Agreed, I would love to read the ones from 1993 and up. That's when we first started to visit Las Vegas and follow LVA and read Jean Scott and Bob Dancer.

  • f009err Sep-02-2025
    Old Issues
No. Can not see me going back 26 plus years. Clearly I'm the odd may out.

Would you share a copy of issue one, before starting the whole project.

  • Ray Sep-02-2025
    Vegas, good ole days
    love to see it.

  • Jim Veith Sep-02-2025
    Please Save the History
Someday sooner than later I’ll be gone, you’ll be gone, and LVA will be gone. And all those old issues may well be gone too soon- in a fire or other catastrophic event, or maybe even just disposed of in the distant future by whoever succeeds us. Then all that history will be lost forever. Don’t let that happen, please. Do it soon, preserve all that great history for future generations.

  • Kevin Behrens Sep-02-2025

  • Llew Sep-02-2025

We are from Germany and visit LV regularly since 1987. Would love to have some history!

  • Norman Braverman Sep-02-2025
    Casino Visitation
It's been very interesting reading about the downturn in visitation to LV casinos. I believe the greed that LV casino management has shown (along with the reduction in foreign visitors because of the current political climate and uncertain economic future) is a major reason why people are reluctant to travel to Vegas. However, what is happening in the casinos around the country? Has visitation dropped off as much as Vegas? What about visitation to the Indian casinos?

  • Hoppy Sep-02-2025
    Re: Braverman
    Good question

  • Michael Rosich Sep-02-2025
    Old Issues
Absolutely scan them in to PDF for subscribers to read for the reasons others have put forth below. Also, they might be of value to future historians.

  • Frank Nicosia Sep-02-2025
Bring the past to the present
    Yes please!!

  • VegasROX Sep-02-2025
    History, YES....but.....
All for scanning and making available all the past issues, for the history of all of it...the prices, the ups and downs of casinos, the Acts that played in Vegas and the good a d not so good, that is Vegas. I'd have all of it for paid members only.

  • Sharon Sep-02-2025

    Old issues
Add me to the list of subscribers that would welcome PDFs of all the older issues of LVA.

  • Raymond Sep-02-2025
    I have the feeling...
...that an issue from 1995 would have the same "it's not like it used to be" griping about 1965 that we have now about 1995. That said, I'd love to read about it.

  • dblund Sep-02-2025
    Yes please
I'm a believer that one of the great values of our electronic age is the relative ease to both store and make accessible material such as this. The Advisor provides a historical record from a unique and relatable perspective, and I certainly believe it is worth the effort to convert it to PDF. Thanks for considering it.

  • Scotski Sep-03-2025
Yes, I Like The Old Issues
I would be interested in reading the old issues online. I am a member going back into the 80's.

I think it would be great to do even one per year to see how things changed over that period.
