Question of the Day - 14 August 2020

Q:

Questions. We get lots and lots of questions, mostly about coronavirus, but also about other stuff.

A:

With bars walk-up service closed, do casinos still serve comped cocktails to slot players?

Cocktail waitresses still deliver. A bartender is usually working the closed bars to fill their orders from the floor. Some places have a diminished number of cocktail waitresses working the slots and pits, so it might take longer, but as of now, the casinos are comping drinks as usual.

Is the NFR still on or has it been canceled for 2020?

As of this writing, it's still on. The last we heard was in a letter from the CEO of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association sent on July 3. Though the letter's headline and tag line announced that the Association "is committed to closing out the year with a National Finals Rodeo," scheduled for Dec. 3-12 in Las Vegas, the text comprised a lot of words that all added up to "maybe."

The 2020 College National Finals Rodeo, scheduled to take place in mid-June in Caspar, Wyoming, was called off and the Indian Finals Rodeo, supposed to be held Oct. 20-24 at the South Point Equestrian Center, was canceled last week. But so far, NFR is still happening.

I don’t have a question. I have an answer to a question I asked over a year ago. I asked if the light on top of the Luxor had grown dimmer in recent years. In a recent VitalVegas blog, it says that the light has been dimmed in cost-savings move. Actually, I do have a question: How often do people write in with the answers to their own questions?

Coincidentally, yours is the third or fourth time it's ever happened (at least that we recall). The last time was exactly a week ago, when Mike Scudiero asked and answered a question about the Wynn Golf Course.

Is Park MGM now smoke free?  If it is, how long do you think it will last?

Park MGM remains closed, having not reopened since the shutdown. MGM International hasn't announced when it might reopen. So though we guess you can say it's smoke-free (no one is allowed inside, so no one could be smoking there), it's unclear if it will be cigarette/cigar/vape-less when it does open or how long it will last if it is.

Someone else asked if MRI has opening dates planned for Park MGM and the Mirage. The answer, so far, is no.

Does Las Vegas have a 14-day quarantine for visitors like Hawaii?

No. First of all, it would be impossible to enforce. Second, it's very much in Las Vegas' interest to welcome as many visitors as deign to show up in the current environment.

And third, it's the other way around for people who return home or visit from Las Vegas if they live in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, or Chicago.

    First Question
You said that some casinos have less waitresses in the slots and pits. So compared to before you mean there are no waitresses now.

    Virus
If for any reason you get tested in Vegas and are pos. you will be!!! Quarantined for two weeks. Many idiots fell they should be patriotic and get tested. They have antibody test that will be pos in one out of 6-7 patients. Does not mean you have disease but!! It is counted as active case and you will be quarantined. If your temp is inreased in the 110 temp do not!!! Get tested leave go somewhere else. Get tested at your peril. The antigen test cross covers with SARS virus. ( common cold and even flu ) just don’t get tested unless you have cough fever shortness of breath ets. Mask useless virus can enter via eyes and ears. It make people feel good but may help 10% of time. Sweden did nothing with corona and their # are better than Europe and USA. Reason is corona is equilavent of flu virus

    Virus
Read the Boyd properties corona policy closely and what they do with people who test pos. If pos you are referred to proper facility ??? RIO?? Internment facility. It may have changed but I doubt it. Again don’t get tested unless you have symptoms. Not cough fever can be cold symptoms. Flu? Does test check for flu?? Prob not. Only time I have been infected in Vegas during flu is one time since 1991 and travel every 2-3 month until this corona false flag. Not a hoax. There are corona cases just like flu and most recover at home. Go to er with fever cough and shortness of breath and you may wind up on ventilator for which 90% die. If you were doing drug trial and 90% died would drug trial continue. No stopped at once. On corona 90% on ventilator die. Pos pressure forces virus in bronchial tube into the lung. Has ventilator use stopped? I don’t know. Familsvmember wirks at big hospital in at Louis. They have 3 patients. Someone is lying.

NFR may happen but without fans
If spectators are not allowed for Raider games at the states new crown jewel, they wont be allowed at Thomas and Mack in December. Not sure how much their TV contract is worth but if its sufficient money, the event may go on in an empty arena. Large viewing parties and Cowboy Christmas will likely not take place either.

Wow! I want to applaud you for staying on task and on your trend of thought. Keep it going. That was interesting to read ( meaning you comments).

    Lying ?!?
Hey Jerry, sombody's lying? Ahh, that would be you. You spout out unsupported numbers and then give out dangerous medical advice. Don't try to tell me you're in the medical profession. No one in that field would be as reckless as you've shown to be.

    @Dr. J. P.
I tried to lighten up on you, but the comment coming after mine is playing my usual role. So you’ve got to try harder to justify your credibility as a doctor. However, you did stay focused and on task with your statement but your statistics are in question. Again,? I am in agreement with questions about the questioning of the validity of your medical information and advice.

Playing without fans is effective only if the NFR participants are living in a “bubble” after their performance as the NBA is doing. However, we know that they will be returning to Southpoint, Gold Coast, The Orleans, Mirage, and the downtown crowds each night of the event. So what is the premise of performing w/o fans?

    Jerry Patey
Jerry, considering that you’ve claimed that you’re a doctor in the past I just have one question- did they teach first grade grammar at your medical school? Unless English is your third language, it’s truly unbelievable how poorly you write.

    Playing without fans
Gene Brown - The premise of playing without fans is to prevent thousands of people packed into a stadium from becoming a huge spreading event. The number of participants in any sporting event is typically much smaller than the number of fans and easier to deal with.

    Sports vs Covid19
Some sports can be played reasonably safe for the players against the virus threat. Sports like golf, tennis, rowing, bowling, harness horse racing, car racing, surfing and swimming competition, some gymnastics, ice skating, snow skiing, shooting and others that involve individual performance or a low number of players. But each pro football team has 55 players along with many asst coaches and other staff. Plus the game brings players into close physical contact and lots of heavy breathing from exertion, so it's hard to limit a respiratory virus transmission. The key will be fast and accurate testing of players so that no one infected is even around the other players. And a firm policy restricting players from being in situations where they could be exposed, like crowded public places, parties, strip clubs, bars, casinos, airports, etc. College and pro football is going to be impacted a lot, hope they find a way to make the games happen.
