Question of the Day - 18 March 2023

Q:

Questions. We get lots and lots of questions.

A:

I tried parking at the big red Fremont Street garage last Sunday, but was surprised to see that I would have to pay a flat rate of $25. When did this happen?

We assumed that it was the special-event rate, but we called Fremont Street Experience to make sure. And yes, we were told that there was a concert on the Third Street stage the day you were there. So the charge was $25 while the band was playing, but afterwards, the price returned to the usual $4 per hour. This happens to us on occasion. When it does, we park in the surface lot right across Carson Avenue from Big Red that charges $3 per hour, even during minor events downtown, and usually has spaces.

Where were the remaining living dolphins from the Mirage habitat relocated to?

As of this writing, three of the dolphins have been relocated to SeaWorld. SeaWorld, actually, loaned the dolphins to the Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, so they were essentially just returned to their original habitat, where they'll have more space and be out of the harsh desert climate. Three dolphins are still on site at the Mirage, awaiting new homes.

You guys ever eat at Evel Pie? Sounds interesting.

We sure have. We reviewed it in the June 2017 Advisor when it had been opened for a few months at 508 Fremont Street, just east of Las Vegas Boulevard. As the name suggests, it's themed for the motorcycle stunt driver Evel Knievel. We liked the pizza, classic New York-style thin crust. At that time, you could get a slice for $4 or a slice and a beer for $5. Now, it's $5 and $7, still a bargain for the big slices. There’s also a big selection of specialty pizzas, plus calzones, subs, wings, and salads. This is a good downtown late-night play, serving till 2 a.m. weekdays and 4:15 a.m. Thurs.-Saturday. During the day, you can set up at a cut-out window looking onto Fremont Street that’s reminiscent of a California beach bar. Another window dubbed the “Pie Hole” facilitates quick ordering from outside. But don’t go there to watch a game — no TVs.

    Only in Vegas
Only in Vegas would a large slice for $5 and a beer for $7 be considered a bargain.

    It's a large slice for $5 -- and a slice and a beer for $7. So you're getting the beer for $2.

    You tube
It looked interesting on you tube, that’s why I asked. I’ll bet it’s cheaper than Allegiant stadium. How’s the grasshopper pizza?
