Question of the Day - 14 May 2021

Q:

Questions. We get lots and lots of questions.

A:

Where can I find Sin City Beer these days?

We're sorry to report that Sin City Brewing Co. didn't survive the pandemic. Launched in 2005 by Richard Johnson, an acolyte of brewing icons Dan Gordon and Dean Biersch, Sin City had expanded to four locations on the Strip, serving five varieties of beer brewed in Las Vegas in small batches (100 kegs at a time) and distributed exclusively around southern Nevada. In mid-June of last year, right after the shutdown, Sin City announced that it was going out of business. We were very sorry to see it go.

However, we've also heard rumors that it might be making a comeback and at SinCityBeer.com, it says "New website coming soon!" Will it be resurrected? Watch this space.

Any word on when the Hofbräuhaus in Las Vegas will be reopening?

Yes. Hofbräuhaus, the Bavarian-like beer hall on Paradise Road and Harmon Avenue is currently accepting dining reservations starting June 1. It might reopen earlier, but that's the date so far. It's been closed since the shutdown and we're happy to see that it wasn't permanent. It's a fun and festive place.

A while back you had the office iguana. Anything nowadays?

Nope. The iguana, a.k.a. Mojo, was such a handful, not to mention freaking out a staff member or two and customers, when it roamed the office, that since it went to the Great Reptilian Home in the Sky, office pets have been ... discouraged.

We just got back from Las Vegas and noticed that the Mexican restaurant, Julio's, at Ellis Island was completely gone and replaced by slot machines. Do you know why it closed and/or did they move to another location?

We contacted Karen Dorsey, president of Ellis Island. She tells us, "Julio’s at EI was the first and only location. They closed last month and we’re working on a new concept set to debut this summer. The slots are actually in front of the location and will be moved once the new venue is completed." We asked why Julio's closed, but she didn't give us a reason.

On average, how many questions are submitted to QOD on a daily basis?

It can and does vary quite a bit. On some days, we get as few as one or two. On others, especially when a QoD runs that strikes some chord with readers, we can field up to eight or ten. On average, however, we receive four or five questions daily. You can see that we have space to answer a fairly small percentage of them.

Do you have a list of casinos that run weekly senior deals or discounts?
It would be great if you made a subject area on this to report on any information. Thank you so much!

Maybe the new concept set to debut this summer is the Tiki bar that's supposed to open June 1st, I think temporarily? I know that's going to be in The Front Yard, but it may be a way to find out how popular the idea is.

    Re Senior Discounts
Stations offers 50% off on Wednesdays when paying with points. Of course, since they decimated their players club rewards, it's not worth going to anymore for me. Used to be 3 points per dollar played for VP, plus bonus days, now it's 1 point for $2 played. I get 1/6 of what they used to offer, so we started going elsewhere.
