Question of the Day - 14 November 2024

Q:

I'm going to be in town for my quarterly visit, it's an obsession, lol, in December and was just searching for some of the better bars to watch the Raiders, particularly if they're close to the stadium. Then I thought, that would be a good Question of the Day for the Las Vegas Advisor. So if you can use it, have at it.

A:

We sure can use it. We haven't answered it before.

The best place to watch Raiders games in Vegas is at the official Raiders Tavern & Grill, where it's all Raiders all the time 20 hours a day (it's closed only between 7 and 11 a.m., 10 a.m. on Saturdays. This is the Raiders-themed restaurant and bar at M Resort, with 3,400 square feet of dining space and two bars, Raiders memorabilia and merchandise, and screens, some big, showing the games everywhere.

Beyond that, we do a team-bars roundup at the beginning of football season every year and this year, interestingly, the Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers boast the most bars with five each. The Raiders have four, but in fact, any Vegas bar that has the game on will have a Raiders following.

The four we list are the Tavern and Grill of course, plus the Stage Door Casino, PKWY Tavern (Dale Ave. location), and Town Center Lounge (Cheyenne).

In the Yelp's Top Ten Best Raiders Bars, only the Tavern and Grill and Stage Door show up; the other two aren't even in the top 40. Yelp, as always, is suspect, heavily biased toward advertisers. Case in point: Number two on the Yelp list is the Redzone Sports Bar at the Gold Coast, which isn't on any other list we saw, and none of the rest of their top ten even mentions the Raiders.

2ndHomeSports.com lists the Stage Door Casino.

The responses to the same question on Reddit are almost entirely: any bar in Las Vegas.

One specific Reddit suggestion is WSKY Stadium, which would be number one in fulfilling your "close to the stadium" requirement. This  big sports bar is at the corner of Russell Rd. and Polaris Ave., a mere block from Allegiant, with upwards of 40 screens, along with 22 beers on tap, 80 whiskies, and plenty of drink specials during Raiders and VGK games. Parking is free in the big new garage across the street, except on game days, which might pose a challenge during home games.

Just a bit farther away than WSKY is the aptly named Tailgater Tavern, two long blocks west on Russell Road from the stadium. There's free parking, but get there early for a spot.

On the Strip, Blondie's Sports Bar and Grill in the Miracle Mile Shops gets a couple of votes in our googling. As you'd expect, screens all over the joint, big ones behind the bar (good breakfast special at Blondie's as well, which we'll review shortly).

Finally, if you're looking for a big crowd and the attending energy and excitement, any sports books will fill the bill. Closest to the stadium is Mandalay Bay's; huge parades of people pass through MBay as they walk to and from Allegiant.

    Ellis Island
I happened into Ellis Island one Sunday and the Front Porch was packed with Raiders fans, plenty of TVs around to watch.

    Front Yard at Ellis Island.
Big TV's and rabid fans. The Raiders house band plays there on one of the weekend nights. EI participates in the LVA coupon book also.
