Question of the Day - 20 August 2022

Q:

Can you provide a list of the restaurants at Reid Airport? For reasons that don't need explaining, we'll be there for several hours in October and we'll want to kill some time by filling up with food. So we want to know where to find the good stuff.

A:

Thanks for the question. We were curious ourselves. And in researching this answer, we were taken a bit by surprise by all the great food available at our beloved airport.

The best roundup we found is on Thrillist, which we cite here with gratitude. They annotate their list with opinions, so if you want to see what the Thrillist writers like and don't like about Reid restaurants (for example, they like Brookwood Farms BBQ and Metro Pizza, but don't like 360 Gourmet Burrito), go to the source

In Terminal 1, Concourse A, you'll find The B Lounge (B for Budweiser), DoughP (serving cookie dough), Moe's Southwest Grill (the only location for this chain in Las Vegas), and Siegel's Bagelmania (and you might find us there, too).

Concourse B has 360 Gourmet Burrito and the PGA Tour Grill.

Fast food accessible from A and B includes Dunkin' Express, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Great Steak & Potato Company, Jamba Juice, Jimmy John's, Mrs. Fields, Port of Subs, Red Star Lounge, Shake Shack, a cupcakes place, Starbucks, Stella Artois Bar, and TCBY.

In Concourse C are Brookwood Farms BBQ, Corcoran's Irish Pub, Jose Cuervo Tequileria, Pei Wei Asian Diner, and Sammy's Beach Bar & Grill. There's also a ton of fast food: Auntie Anne's, Burger King, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Fresh Market On The Go, Great American Bagel & Bakery, Jamba Juice, Jersey Mike's Subs, LAS MKT, Nathan's Famous, Popeyes Louisiana Chicken, Starbucks, Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen, and Wendy's.

Concourse D boasts Burke in the Box, Metro Pizza, Rachel's Kitchen, Ruby's Dinette, Sammy's Woodfired Pizza, Wolfgang Puck Express, and 16 of the usual chains and fast fooderies, including Baja Fresh, California Pizza Kitchen, Chilis, and Port o' Subs.

Finally, Terminal 3 offers Las Vegas Chophouse & Brewery (this steakhouse is the fanciest restaurant at Reid) and a Village Pub (by the people who bring you Ellis Island), along with a half-dozen fast-food counters.

    Bring Lots of Money
The food at the airport is not cheap - extremely overpriced - shockingly so.

    Janet Planes
Ruby's Dinner is a great place to grab a Burger and usually see the Secretive Janet Fleet (Area 51 Shuttle) come and go! and if looking to kill time...Don't overlook the Awesome little Aviation Museum in terminal 1. Look for the 1956 T-Bird "firetruck"

    Ridiculously Expensive
At Philadelphia International, stores and restaurants are not allowed to charge more than they charge out of the airport so people would want to shop and eat. This definitely does not apply at McCarren (I refuse to call it Reid). Food prices are about 50% more than what I pay other places. The same bottle of water that I paid $2.59 at PHL cost over $5 at McCarren.

    Article
Interestingly, just yesterday the Post had an article on the best places to eat at the nation's busiest airports. For LAS they chose Metro Pizza for sit-down restaurant, Sammy's Woodfired Pizza for quick-serve, and Ethel M for wildcard.

I also have to ask - does Fresh Market On the Go have anything to do with the Fresh Market grocery store chain? This is an excellent chain based right here in Greensboro, NC. I know it has become popular throughout the south, but don't know if they've caught on yet in the west.

    big tex
Kevin, you are correct about the cost of bottle water at at the Vegas airport and that is why we always carry an empty bottle to the airport and refill it at the filtered water station near the restrooms. Like most people we can afford the cost of bottled water but are insulted to have to pay the much higher price at the airport. Also we often pick up a little something to eat in route to the airport or bring something from home and eat it once we have cleared security. Plane tickets are high enough as it is.

And yes we only play the casino games that have the lowest house edge--which are almost always a few select table games and never slots--no exceptions. And yes we still get our share of comps.

    Rip off concessions
I was stunned at how much Jamba Juice (for example) charges compared to off-airport. Clearly the airport authority does not have rules limiting what restaurants can charge. How do I solve this problem? It’s easy - I don’t eat at the restaurants. The idiots who run these establishments are leaving so much money on the table by charging such high prices.

  • Kevin Lewis Aug-20-2022
    You're paying the airport, actually
David, one reason food prices are so high is that all airport concessioners have to pay the airport authority both a permit fee and an ongoing operations fee. So if you're paying $3 too much for that bottle of water, it's because $2 is going to the airport.

Any way to make that a link so I don’t get carpel tunnel just from trying to type it. 🙂

    On the way…
We always stop at Capriottis on the way to the airport, get our sandwiches to go. Doesn’t matter what time our flight is, this delicious sandwich works for breakfast, lunch or dinner!
