Question of the Day - 19 January 2022

Q:

Does Resort World always plan to allow me to get my daily steps in getting from self-park to the casino? Kind of a far walk.

A:

Well, Resorts World has two self-parking garages.

One signed “Hotel Parking” is on the north side of the casino; its elevators disgorge you right into the casino.

The other one, presumably the one you're using, is sign-posted “Hotels Self-Parking” and is somewhat less convenient, mandating a bit of a hike, all outdoors. It's not really that far (it's the one we use; we like a short constitutional coming and going), but it's a longer walk than most casino-goers are accustomed to and it's not particularly appealing to most in the heat of the summer and inclement weather.

We're seen a number of complaints about it and we're told it generates even more.

But don’t necessarily blame Resorts World. When Genting bought the property from Boyd, it inherited some skeletons from the ill-fated  Echelon project. Boyd Gaming spokesman David Strow says he thinks that's the way the parking garages were incorporated in the original design.

As a consolation, self-parking is still free at Resorts World, going on seven months after opening. The gates and ticket system have been in place that whole time, so we're a little surprised they haven't started charging yet.

On the other hand, “I think Resorts World knows they need to avoid creating additional obstacles to visiting the resort, although I’m told they were very busy during the holiday season,” says VitalVegas correspondent Scott Roeben.

But back to that walk. You can always valet park your car, but it’s $21 for 24 hours, so self-parking remains the best option -- for both your wallet and your heart.

    Not Far at all
The self park garage to the casino isn't a long walk at all. Sure it's relative but if you think that's a long walk then you probably should stay off the strip altogether.

    Confusing place
that whole place is confusing. just driving in you are not sure where to go. Is "Hotel Parking" lot free to general public? The self park is a bit of a hike, will be bad when its 110 degrees outside . Went there during the day mid week. nobody in the place. Nice place but just set up weird.

    Parking distances
In the hot days of summer maybe Resorts World will run some parking lot shuttles, open air vehicles or other courtesy rides from the farther parking lot to the casino. I've been to a lot of airports and theme parks that do this. Some folks need a little extra help. It's a nice touch, especially in bad weather.

    Good excercise
Yep, for those who complain, valet is there for you.

Otherwise, shouldn't the longer walk should be seen as a positive? With the vast majority of the nation overweight says the data, a bit of an extra walk I think is a good thing for a little exercise and should be seen as a positive in my book.

I'm thinking Uber could help get ya there.

    Is it really that far?
I wasn't wearing a pedometer when we walked to Resorts from the parking lot, but have you ever walked from the parking lot at MGM to the casino? That's a country mile too! I agree it would be unpleasant during the warm months, but in November it was fine.

    Not that bad a walk
There are worse walks from parking to getting indoors, but most are covered. The least RW could do is put an awning over the walkway from the structure to the casino to protect against the sun and the rain.

    no luggage?
Perhaps I missed it in the answer. A longer walk to check in? With luggage?

    Valet $21?!
I did a spit take with my soda reading that they charge $21 for valet. And they call slot machines one-armed bandits? The corporate owners are multi-armed bandits.

    Disappointed
I’m handicapped and find the long walk to the casino difficult. I probably won’t return to Resorts World. It was hyped up to be this great place and I found it lacking, not only in the parking part of my visit but the restaurants and all. It’s nothing but a bigger Circus Circus.
