Question of the Day - 30 January 2024

Q:

My wife and I will be coming to the Rolling Stones concert in May at Allegiant Stadium, staying at the Orleans. We will be renting a car on
our trip, but was wondering what the best plan for transportation would be. We can't walk long distances, so parking at Mandalay Bay is not an option. Is there affordable parking closer to the stadium? Or would Uber or a cab be a better option?

A:

Since you'll have a car and can't walk too far, our recommendation would be to reserve a parking spot as close to the stadium as you can.

We're sure plenty of people can arrange for ride-shares to and from Allegiant Stadium for games and events, but having experienced the mass exodus of 65,000 people emptying out of the stadium at the same time, we'd much rather have the security of making our way to our own car, even if it means sitting in traffic for a little while to get clear of the rush. Fighting hundreds of people for Ubers, all of which pick up in the same lot, isn't our idea of ending a Rolling Stones concert on a, shall we say, high note.

Also, Allegiant is such a huge building that it's a schlep to your seats no matter how close you park. And if those seats are in the upper tiers, there's a fair amount of climbing up (and over people) to get to them.

The best way to see where you can park and reserve a spot is to go to SpotHero.com, at which you can find and book parking at more than 8,000 garages, lots, and valets in 300-plus major North American cities. The website/app gives you the addresses, prices, and walking distance from the various Allegiant surface parking lots and nearby private lots, including a garage right across the street.

As for affordable, parking for the Stones concert is already listed, so we see prices starting at $25 at a lot .7 miles away on Hacienda, going up to $35 for a spot .4 miles away on South Valley View. From there, it rises all the way up to $100 at the big new garage on the corner of Polaris and Hacienda (.3 mile/six-minute walk). The closest is Lot F at Allegiant, a three-minute walk, for $50.

Spend some time looking at the map for prices and distances, then book at SpotHero on the Stones page. All you'll have to worry about at that point is the traffic and the schlep.

    Taxes
Your betting with After Tax Money....
You should win after Tax Money.

The sports book or other legal gambling entity pays taxes on its profit just like a retail store or restaurant.

These taxes are so out of whack its not funny.

    Tax base is revenue
Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t the 51% tax rate apply to the sportsbooks net operating revenue? NJ has a 14% tax rate which results in tax revenue being about 1% of handle (in September). My concern is if the tax revenue in NY is 3-4% off handle lines will be 15 cents rather than the standard 10. How many people will travel to CT or NJ to avoid that 5 cent “tax”? I don’t think too many will which reduce any pressure on the new Governor to lower the tax rate.

Superhero is the way to go!
We used SuperHero in Washington D.C. when we went to the National Mall, and it was the best avenue to take. We went three different days and found affordable parking .3 miles from where we wanted to go everyday at a decent price, especially for all day parking.

    Ask the ladies....
You could ask the ladies on the stroll out front for a ride, but that may not be the kind of ride you are after. Enjoy the show (and long walk)!

    Whataguy.
Anyway, last time we went to see Aerosmith, we parked at Ellis Island and Ubered to the concert.
    Worked perfect.

    Agreed
Spot Hero to a Russell road area lot for easy entry. Exit is quick to I15. Also, rent your car at a resort rental car counter rather than the airport and you save more $$$. They let you return at the airport too.
