Question of the Day - 21 September 2024

Q:
I was just watching the weekly video and was interested to find the question of the day from 10/13/2020 on chips. When I try and search the QOD archives using that date, it does not result in that question. I spent some time using different words, but cannot find how to find it.  Not really feeling like scrolling through them page by page. Is there a way to search by date and what is best way to search? There is a  ton of info in those questions.
A:

Sorry, but you can't search by date. It's just the way our site works, using the Google search engine.

One thing you could do to narrow it down is to search using the Gambling category in the numerous category boxes near the top of the Search QoD Archives page. The QoD on 10/13/209 comes up on page 33, which took us about 30 seconds to click through to. Yes, it's still a bit of a pain, but it's better than clicking through four times that many pages without the Gambling category to reach back to October 2020.

Another thing to do, which you did without success, is to try your luck with words. In that particular video, Anthony used the term "bananas," the nickname for the yellow $1,000 chip. Searching for "bananas," that QoD came up fourth from the top. Very fast. Like any search, the more specific your term is, the more quickly you'll find it. Note that "banana" didn't turn up in that search; it had to be "bananas."

When all else fails, you can do what a lot of members do: email us!

Click on the Have a Question/Submit a QoD box below the answer of the day and ask for the QoD you're looking for. Our content management system posts every question we've ever answered on a single page, so we can search easily with just a term or two. Also, we tend to remember them, so even if you don't know the exact terms, we can usually find them. Then we send you the link.

We do it frequently and don't mind at all. In fact, we're always happy to find QoDs that members remember and are seeking for one reason or another. As mentioned in the question -- and by Anthony in the video -- just about anything you want to know about Vegas and/or gambling has been covered at one time or another in Question of the Day.

And for those of you who'd like to see the QoD referred to, "Are the Colors for Gambling Chips Universal?" here's the link. It's a good one, with lots of interesting comments.

    doesn't work
The "submit a QoD box" has never worked for me. I still try it, still doesn't work.

As for looking for an earlier QoD, the more common the topic, the harder to find. What was it you wanted to know about chips from the QoD? Try different phrases, e.g. "cashing in chips" or "stolen chips" or "chip value" or "rare chips". And if you have a vague idea of when the QoD ran, that helps narrow it down some. Good luck.

    Mellow Yellow
Last time I was in Louisville, I went to Ceasars where they use yellow chips in the $20 denomination.
