I am a Vegas local. The other day I believe I saw Anthony Curtis near the bar in the Gold Coast Casino. I have been a fan of Anthony as well as an LVA subscriber for many years. I wanted to say hello, but I didn’t want to bother him. Does he mind when people say hi? I understand about not interrupting during a meal and such, but if you happen to catch him walking through the casino?
Your description certainly sounds like it was Anthony, who winds up at Gold Coast fairly frequently, since it's right around the corner from our office, and he can often be found at or near a bar.
Also, this happens fairly frequently when we’re out and about with him; it’s notable how many Vegas locals and visitors recognize him from television appearances and his mug in the papers.
Some people aren't sure exactly who he is and he regularly hears, “I know I know you from somewhere.” He also tells the story of walking through a supermarket parking lot when a guy looked up, pointed, and said simply, "Coupon man."
Obviously, some times are less convenient than others, but in those cases, he'll explain that he’s on his way to an appointment or otherwise engaged (he has to make so many stops, he’s usually in a hurry), so don't take it personally if you hear that.
"I get stopped all the time and I'm always happy to talk to LVA members," he says. "Sometimes people want to take a photo. Sometimes they want me to sign their Member Rewards Book. Most often, they simply want to say hello and tell me what bargain or hidden gem they’ve discovered lately. Some come right up to me, without hesitation, even if I'm in the middle of a conversation with someone over dinner, while others simply smile or nod.
“I confess, I often wonder why people get such a kick out of these things, but I'm always happy to oblige and customers shouldn’t feel like they’re putting me out. I also learn a lot from these interactions — things members like or don't like about LVA, suggestions they have for new features or from their shared insights and observations from around the city, or to relate a positive (or otherwise) experience they may have had with one of our partner restaurants or casinos -- so that’s another reason I like meeting and talking to people."
Bottom line: By all means walk up and introduce yourself. It’s all in a day’s work for the Las Vegas Advisor.
