Question of the Day - 11 March 2019

Q:

It appears that while quite a few more of the MRB dining coupons offer 50% off for the single visitor than in the past (thank you!), some are still specifically "2-for-1.” If a single person goes to the restaurant (not a buffet) and orders two entrées, is that covered by the coupon? I started thinking about this when I saw the MRB coupon for American Coney Island. Almost anyone could easily eat two hot dogs. Taking it further, though, a single person might be able to put away two smaller-sized entrées in another restaurant. Has anyone done this in the past?

A:

In all the time we’ve been doing coupons, this question has never come up, which leads us to believe it’s been done before without issue.

If a twofer doesn’t specify a specific number of patrons, there should be no denying a single diner ordering two items, whether an entrée and appetizer or side or even two entrées, and paying for only one.

If you've tried it and it either worked or didn't, or plan to try it, please let us know. We're very curious to hear how it might have or might play out -- though as we say, we expect that there wouldn't be a problem.

    BOGOcoupons
I actually did a MRB and ACG coupon run to a food court, as well as two other food stands, in one of the Strip casinos. I got about 7-8 BOGOS. With one exception, they were all take-out. The exception? I ate one there and took the other home. Had some great "leftovers" for over a week.
All of the vendors accepted the coupons, no problem.
As these were Strip prices, they were a bit high, but at 2-for-1, the price was right.

I'm a single visitor and last year I went to the Market Street Cafe at the California for their prime rib special. I could not eat two whole meals so they let me get an extra large piece of prime rib instead along with one potato, veggies and salad bar. They were very nice about it. I was stuffed!

I have used by one get one free at El Cortez for walleye and at California for Butterfish. Used at Magnolia with no problem. Problem is what you do with 2/1 buffet? Some give 50 % off. This would give a valuable edition for solo travelers. Personally do not eat many buffets anymore.

Oh, yes!!! I've done it many times. And IF the person selling the item asks, I say they're coming. Then when they don't show I ask for a box to take it to them because they couldn't make it.

    I will not be coupon-denied
Almost all of the time, I've been able to order two entrees and eat both or take some home. I have also, after asking, been able to use buffet twofers as half-off coupons even when it doesn't explicitly say so on the coupon.
However, certain buffet dronelings have told me that i can't use a 2-1 coupon that way. So, fine: I get in line, strike up a conversation with a couple near me, and offer to sell them the coupon at 1/2 the normal cost of one buffet. For instance, if it's $20, I sell it to them for $10--and we both show a net gain of $10.
And if somehow I can't use a twofer at all, I do what I do with the Ellis Island BBQ coupon--I give it to a table that looks like it's having a good time.

    Magnolia's 2 for 1 MRB coupon
At Magnolia's cashier they have a sign which say "No take-out" when using the MRB 2 for 1 coupon. I took a picture of the sign but there is no option on this forum to post it here. The sign also say that the MRB 2 for

A savvy friend told me how to get around Magolia's "no take-out" policy. I ordered two meals, took a couple of bites from each and asked for boxes for my "leftovers." No problem.
