Question of the Day - 19 July 2021

Q:

Is Slots A Fun still open and running?

A:

Yes, Slots a Fun is operational, though if our last visit is any indication, just barely.

Also, it closed for a couple of days in mid-June, so there was some speculation that it might not reopen. We heard that casino security attributed it to “maintenance going on,” but completely closing down a casino for maintenance isn’t normal. It’s generally thought that changes are coming to Slots a Fun as part of its sale, along with Circus Circus, to Treasure Island owner Phil Ruffin, but when we stopped in to answer this question, it was business as usual. Mostly.

It definitely remains a shell of its former self. Many of us have fond memories of the quarter crap table rammin' and jammin' right at the entrance, almost out on the Strip sidewalk, plus $1 blackjack tables, crowded slot machines, free popcorn, and the very cheap snack bar and beers. At one point, the snack bar was replaced with a small food court.

Now, however, the table games are long gone, replaced by electronic craps, blackjack, roulette, and a Big Six wheel. The food court is gone, boarded up with painted plywood, and the bartender (the only employee we could find in the joint) told us it's not coming back, or at least no construction is going on behind the temporary walls. There's still a "gift shop," at least according to the sign; it's really an incongruous sundries store. And the bar is about the only thing original in the joint. It serves a dollar foot-long hot dog when the bar is open, also according to the bartender, but apparently, those hours aren't exactly regular. We understand that it's open from 4 p.m. to midnight daily, plus all day on Saturdays and Sundays.

The rest of the space is partially filled (plenty of space between) with Wheel of Fortune machines and humongous video slots -- Endless Treasures, Buffalo Grand, Dragon Spin, Blitz, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and so on.

If changes are coming, they'll be welcome. It's hard to imagine a more boring casino on the Strip.

    Ah, the good old days
Remember when it was called Sluts A Fun and you could get lap dances right at your machine?

    Sadly, Money Talks
Sadly, Slots of Fun is a figment of its own imagination these days.

    Blackjack
Slots of Fun was our spot for the cheap blackjack. They also had a blackjack game that if you hit a natural 21 they would spin a wheel for an extra bonus. Can't remember what it was called, but there were usually people three deep waiting to play it. Man, those were the good old days. And they used to have all the old school slot games we used to love to play. Miss it!

    always a must do...back then
Wouldn't have missed a visit to Slots a Fun back in the day. But even more recently, maybe November of 2019, before the Covid shut down, our strolls through Slots as well as Circus Circus were disappointing. As they say, nothing to see there. Sad.

    Different Times
Back in the day, early 90's, I got a Royal for $1,000. No TITO so it was a hand pay. I got my picture taken by the machine and a Slots of Fun hat. I have to laugh at that now.

Maybe they'll pick up some overflow business from Resorts world...
compared to some of the RW food options, that $1 hot dog looks pretty good.
    And maybe the games, too.

    Ice Cream
Was it Slots A Fun that used to have the ice cream social each after noon?

    Free Pull
I remember they had a free slot machine in the back that I often went to. It paid quarters and you could do it once a day. Multi reels.

    RE: Ice Cream
Westward Ho had the free ice cream social along with a free Elvis show. They also had great 99 cent margaritas.
