Question of the Day - 19 July 2025

Q:

We're not allowed to pick up any TITOs from machines, because it's the casino's $$, which sounds ridiculous and money-grubbing to me. Sometimes the TITO machine doesn't allow for a donation and sometimes you're just too tired to want to expend a lot of energy to find a TITO machine in the casino to donate a few pennies. A good QOD might be to find out what most people do with their small TITOs. And who would know better than the experienced LVA subscribers?

A:

This question comes off of our QoD on how much money is donated by players in casinos where TITO machines don't dispense coins, which are collected and given to charities.

We considered making it a poll, but there didn't seem to be enough choices: go to the cage for the change; donate them; hand them off as the cheapest tips ever; or leave them for the silver miners/next gamblers/casino.

So we'll just put the question out there today. What do you do with your ticket-in-ticket-outs for less than a dollar?

    Give it away
I normally hand to a player that’s playing a penny machine and say “Good luck. Make them earn this."

    Depends
If the casino has the option and makes it convenient, donate to a cause. if its a few pennies... leave it, if I'm still playing I collect them and consolidate them into a larger tito by running them through a machine 3-4 small titos can turn into a Buck! yeah, I'm a Cheap SOB, but try not to leave it for the Casino. and while not a silver miner, I'll pick up a tito if it's worthwhile. same as I'd pick up a quarter if it was laying there.

    Wager Saver
It’s rare to find this, especially in Vegas, but there are a few machines that allow you to play a wager saver spin on the first bet. For example, the min bet on Huff N Puff is .75. If you put in a .50 ticket it might allow you to “bet” .75 and prompt the wager saver. I’ve won a couple bucks by doing that.

Again, not all machines allow this as some require a full bet before offering that, but it’s nice when it does

    Give Away
    As white elephant gifts

    Housekeeping
I just leave a good real tip at my hotel and throw the TITOs and any coin I accrue into a cup alongside it.

Easy Solution With a Feel Good Finish
Earlier this year in a QOD regarding whether or not any one trusted the casinos to do the right thing with change leftover from the TITO. It was a very good discussion and I was persuaded to begin to consider making the decision to donate the leftovers. I came up with a plan to donate the change if it is less than 50 cents and keep it if it is 50 cents and above. Then play with it or cash it in later at the cage. MGM Rewards and Caesar’s Rewards programs give you an option of charities to give donations during the TITO transition process.

    It depends
Wesome people are still mining these tickets. Saw some dude in AC feeding a two-inch-thick stack of small amounts into a machine. I try to consolidate mine and play them off. Also bring them to the cashier as a tip for the cage peeps. But that tip must be at least $1. Also leave them for housekeeping as an tip in addition to what I'm normally leaving.

    Caution
Some casinos do not permit their employees to have tickets. As someone said the money is the casinos and the casino does not know how the employee got the ticket. Accordingly, giving a ticket to an employee as a tip may not work. I agree the employee could always get someone else to cash it. I also leave them for the household staff who are the least tipped employees in the hotel but I am not sure it does any good.

    Dragon Link
I'll take my under $1 TITOS to Dragon Link/Lightning Link and do the wager saver at whatever the highest spin is closest to the Tito, most of the time its a free spin at a discount.

    tito
as an elder I get them as gifts a lot, but mine I keep until next trip.

    New Vegas
Casinos should pay out at the machine, I could care less if it increases there costs dispensing change at the redemption machines, if the gaming board had any balls FULL payment would be made as per ticket value

    SCAM TICKETS
A TOTAL SCAM THAT THE MACHINE DOES NOT GIVE OUT THE FULL AMOUNT....SOUNDS LIKE A CLASS ACTION SUIT IN THE MAKEING.
FOR NOW I SAVE EM UP UNTIL I ACCUMULATE A FEW BUCKS & THEN TAKE EM TO THE CAGE.......

    Tito pennies
For my little amounts... I go to the cashier. Sometimes I take the change but sometimes I say to the cashier, "Put the change in your tip jar." I know, maybe I'm a penny pincher but it's a VERY short walk to the cashier's booth. Rarely farther than a trip to the restroom and we all go there without hesitation.

Save tem and cash them at the cashier when I have a few dollars. I resent the fact that the casinos are not giving me the full amount of my own money.

  • Sally Jul-19-2025
    All choices
I donate if it is a program I follow, such as St. Jude’s. Sometimes I will hand it to a person more my age (retired) and most are very happy which makes me feel good. Sometimes I just save them and cash them at the cashier before I leave. Mostly I just give them away.

  • VegasROX Jul-19-2025
    Save em, give em away
Put them into the next penny machine plays. At the end of the day, hand them off to another player with a good luck offering.

  • Michael Taylor Jul-19-2025
    Cash out
I let them add up and take them to the cage or leave a bunch in the room as tips for housekeeping. The casino rips us off enough without giving them any more money by not cashing out

  • Raymond Zachary Jul-19-2025
    tito
we give our to a random player as we are leaving

  • Bennett Feinerman Jul-19-2025
    Charity
When I find them I put them into the cash machine and donate to one of four charities.

    It Depends #3
At home casinos where I go for a day every once in a while, I donate. When I'm in LV for several days, I will combine tickets so I only might have some change at the end of my trip and either donate if there's the option or give it to someone since it's pennies or cash it. OR sometimes find one in my purse after the fact and use it as a bookmark :)

  • BIGLAR73 Jul-19-2025
    Cash them out
I usually keep the odd change TITO's and cash them in at the end of a trip. Like my Dad always said, " Mind the nickels and dimes, and the dollars will take care of themselves."

  • O2bnVegas Jul-19-2025
    All the above
If talking about the ATM small change amounts, depends on my mood; and I do all the above except I never leave one for the pickers. I have taken some myself that were left by somebody. I don't make a special trip to the cage to cash any, but if I'm going anyway I'll add the ticket. I don't mind donating, and again if not in a mood to even think about it I'll donate. The options for donating are in line with my charity goals.

Use one as a book mark. The gift that keeps on giving.

    AP Play
I use small TITO's to reveal the hidden status of a certain AP machine. One penny will expose the hidden status

  • Timothy Grant Jul-20-2025
    TITO
During the trip I play them in the next machine I play. At the end of the trip, I take it to the cage. The casino's rip us off enough that the last thing I will do is give them even an extra $0.01.

  • Karen Kradle Jul-20-2025
    Small tickets
I just play it into the next machine. I used to love the change. Small change in a jar makes hundreds of dollars. As I leave the casino, I will cash it with the cashier. If it’s just a couple cents, I give it to the player next to me.

  • Maggie Fisher Jul-23-2025
    Maggie
I've handed them to other players. Most say thanks.
