Question of the Day - 15 February 2025

Q:

This may have already been addressed in a Question of the Day, but what is your advice for going to Sphere to see the show? Days or times that are least busy? Best parking and walking places?

A:

We've never answered these questions in a QoD, which makes them good candidates for today's. But we did cover them in the Las Vegas Advisor as blog posts in December 2023 after our visit the previous month.

We wrote three reviews: one of the movie Postcards from Earth, which we assume you're referring to here (and not the U2 concert film), another of the seating, and the third of parking. Together, they're the most extensive coverage of the Sphere scene we know of.

Here are the highlights.

In the review, we called Postcards from Earth "the most immense, immersive, and impressive movie the world has ever seen," even at ticket prices that start at $88 (down from $100 when we saw it, which probably means that demand has softened since then). And with 14-16 shows per week, any time is good for attending; a quick check for this answer revealed plenty of seats available for all shows. Of course, the Monday showing at 11:30 a.m. will almost certainly be less crowded than the Sunday show at 7 p.m.

Seating is limited to the center of the arena, so there's not a bad seat in the house. However, Sphere's footprint is such that, in order to fit 18,000 seats in the arena, access is uncomfortably steep. Epically long escalators take you most of the way there, but to get to your seats, you have to climb the precipitous stairs.

You can walk in from various places on the Strip, but the main entrance is a ways along Sands Avenue from the Strip, then farther down Manhattan Avenue. From Treasure Island's front door, for example, it's 1.3 miles one way to Sphere. The closest you'll get is from Harrah's/Linq at .8 of a mile, but that's the back way on Winnick to Koval to Westchester, still a fur piece, as they said in the Old West.

You can park on Manhattan Street and Westchester Drive for free, but you takes yer chances in finding a space. Small parking lots are onsite, but the best parking is in one of four garages across Manhattan Street at the Howard Hughes Center, about a 10-minute walk to the arena. And you can reserve and pay for those spaces in advance.

Here's the link to our main review. At the bottom of that page are the links to the seating and parking reviews.

Note that those reviews are from well over a year ago. The details might have changed since, especially for parking. But the gists are still accurate.

    Covered Walkway
We've been to Postcards twice, once when it first opened and once recently when family visited. Pretty cool, except the first time our seats were not in the center. If you've ever been on Soarin' at Disney it's the same thing as getting a seat not in the middle; tall structures are bent like a banana and ruins the effect. But I am wondering why there is an enclosed walkway connecting the Sphere to Venetian/Palazzo and we're not allowed to use it? Walking along a crowded sidewalk is lame.

    Back Door
My wife and I have been twice, the first time we went in a back door that we had walked to on Sands. That may have been closer than the main entrance which we used the second visit because we went with a friend and used Uber. Also was curious if Sphere offered handicapped seating. I didn't see any either time we went.

    The Sphere
There is handicapped seating. Make arrangements in advance
and an employee will meet you with a wheelchair and take you to
the seating area. It is on the 3rd floor.

Does anyone know if the walkway between the Sphere, and the Venetian will open?

    Venetian/Sands Walkway
I saw the (live) U2 Concert a year ago and I definitely used the elevated enclosed walkway from the Venetian. The route took us into the lobby of the Sands Expo Center (which they used stanchions and ropelines to try to direct us away from the exhibit hall). Not sure if it's different a year later, or if that was something they only did for live concerts, or if they handle it differently if there's an active convention going on when they are checking convention badges.

    I Don't Get It
The Sphere is way to expensive, difficult to get to, difficult to enter/leave, difficult to be seated - and for what, a couple of hours of visual/hearing experiencing? I would not go even if everything was comped - it is no wonder this place is in the red and will never recoup the cost for building it much less make any money. It is just another over hyped, overly expensive boondoggle.

No parking on Manhattan or Westchester
I stayed in a condo that overlooked the Sphere in December. Parking was not permitted on either Manhattan or Westchester and they were chasing cars who tried to park there.

    Postcards
Seeing this movie was my wife's choice for the one show we'd see on our trip last October. I will admit to being put off by the cost to see a movie, but in the end we had no complaints. Seeing inside the place for the first time was impressive, and the show itself really succeeded in providing a very unique experience. My wife and I were both very happy with her choice.
Parking wasn't an issue for us, as it is an easy walk next door from the HIVC Desert Club. Wanting to head over to the strip for a bit, we also exited through the walkway to the Venetian, though I have no insight as to whether or not that is open on a regular basis.

    walkway
I was at a Eagles concert in January. The walkway was open from Venetian to Sphere. Didn't have to go outside, quite nice. A security guard told us the walkway being open is dependent upon if a convention is going on.

The sphere experience is a must. Wasn't a fan of the tree hugging movie, but enjoyed the overall experience
