Question of the Day - 28 September 2018

Q:

Last year when I was in Vegas, the Spice Market Buffet was under construction. I will be coming to Vegas at the end of the month and was wondering if the buffet is fully up and running?

A:

Yes, construction has been completed. Though the space is upgraded, the selection has been downgraded to a certain extent.

Here’s our review from the current issue of the Las Vegas Advisor.

After receiving a few negative comments about the Spice Market Buffet, we took a look at dinner (we didn’t eat, but walked though). Formerly one of the best in town, the buffet has been downsized, but didn’t look severely lacking. What set this buffet apart was the Mediterranean station and that’s still there, along with peel-and-eat shrimp and other seafood selections, salads, lots of vegetables, Tandoori skewers, ribs, rotisserie chicken, and roasted tri tip at the carving station. The dessert selection was noticeably diminished. While no longer among the best, it’s not a total pass for $25.99.

Not what it used to be
The Spice Market Buffet at Planet Hollywood is no longer worth a visit.

My favorite dish here, the tempura shrimp and vegetables is gone. The Mediterranean station may still be there but it no longer has any baklava. They now have self service drink stations. And I didn't see any interesting desserts to try at all.

    Never went back
A very long time ago, I was almost asked to leave the buffet when I unintentionally "took cuts" in a refill line. I onlt wanted seafood, and I saw no reason to go all the way through the salad line to get there. Nobody does this to me. I am not that type of person. We never went back and don't miss the place at all. So many other places to eat without a hassle. I have mixed feelings about self-serve beverages and I hope The Wynn never goes to this. Bellagio does it now, I am told.

    Offerings reduced
I agree that the Spice Market Buffet is no longer worth a visit. Somehow they managed to eliminate almost all the offerings that were my favorites! We went for lunch and the place was almost empty -- that was the first tip-off that things weren't good.

    So-So
I had good and bad meals there over the years. They were always on Groupon so the price was cheap. Sounds like it's a pass now. Best buffet for the price is now at the Palms.

    Sub-Par
We were just there a week ago. We were looking forward to it because it used to be one of our favorites. It is definitely NOT what it used to be. The food was bland and tasteless for the most part. We were totally disappointed. We will not be going back. Too many other buffets that are better for the same price, or less.
