I seem to remember reading that a sort of primer for sports betting is coming out(from Huntington press). What is the title, and when will it be published? I know nothing about sports betting (really) and am flummoxed by the various terms, which no one explains their meaning, just assuming we all are up to speed. Things like total (of what?) over/under (what?), things like that. I'm hoping this new book will cover all that, and more!
The (tentative) title of the book is All about Sports Betting and it's written by Blair Rodman, long-time sports-betting, blackjack, and poker pro, whose other Huntington Press title is Kill Phil, written with Lee Nelson and Steven Heston.
And yes, it covers all the basics: money lines and pointspreads and why the lines move; the vig or juice, what the bookmaker charges to book a bet; types of bets, from straight to three-way, from totals to derivatives, from props to parlays; middling, arbitrage, hedges, futures, and survivor pools; where to bet and how to make one; ticket writers, kiosks, apps, offshore websites, and agents; what to do about misgraded bets and rules disputes; specifics on individual sports; a deep dive into professional sports betting; touts, info services, and betting exchanges; bad beats and losing streaks; even the future of sports betting.
In short, yes, anyone without a shred of knowledge about or experience in sports betting will be up to speed after reading All about Sports Betting. The book is currently in production and should be published in the third quarter of this year.
