With Taylor Swift coming to town, where do these concert extravaganzas do their dress rehearsals? They must need a huge area to perfect the choreography, sets, and timing of these huge music shows.
Touring shows, like Taylor Swift’s, which played Allegiant Stadium in March, are perfected before they hit the road.
Allegiant, by the way, has become the preferred venue for concerts in Las Vegas. This is, in a way, unfortunate because trying to access an actual human being in the Allegiant bureaucracy is impossible, we found.
Similarly uncooperative were Caesars Entertainment (which experienced a number of birth pangs with its Adele residency), as well as Boyd Gaming, which has its Orleans Arena for big-ticket shows.
A company with multiple concert venues is MGM Resorts International: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Mandalay Bay Event Center, and Dolby Live Theater at Park MGM, as well as dibs on T-Mobile Arena. Here we hit pay dirt.
Company PR director (and long-time friend of LVA) Jenn Michaels told us, “Generally any large space they can get access to for an extended amount of time [would be used for rehearsals]. Movie lots, old aircraft hangars, and old stadiums are common choices. In addition, the act arrives several days prior to the show for rehearsals.”
Adds UNLV Distinguished Fellow Alan Feldman, formerly Michaels’ opposite number in MGM governmental relations, “Most shows either rehearse in large warehouses or rent an arena. This latter option is often best, as they need to rehearse the set-up and tear-down as well. By way of example, I once attended a rehearsal of a new show from Feld Entertainment at an arena in Charlotte, N.C., the Coliseum as I recall.”
So there you have it.
