Who owns the Stardust name now? Could a new casino-hotel legally call itself that?
No such luck.
Boyd Gaming still owns the Stardust trademark. Not only that, Boyd uses it to brand its online-gambling operations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ontario, Canada. They'll certainly continue to do so anywhere else to which igaming operations eventually spread.
And for good reason. Boyd is especially fond of the Stardust name, as are customers. It still has a great deal of cachet.
You can see a mini Stardust sign at Resorts World, the megaresort that rose, phoenix-like, on the property where the Stardust was razed (an informational plaque attests to that fact). The original Stardust sign and the sign for Lido de Paris, the Stardust's long-running production show, are on display at the Neon Museum.
