Question of the Day - 06 May 2026

Q:

If prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas, how is it that those people can hand out flyers on the Strip advertising the "services" of prostitutes?

A:

Like any other major city, prostitution is a thriving industry in Las Vegas, though it's not legal within the city or the surrounding Clark County. However, as you suggest with your quotes around "services," the leafleteers (also known as "slappers") on the Las Vegas Strip aren’t explicitly advertising prostitution, only implicitly.

Yes, the flyers graphically depict women selling their services, and yes, everyone knows that those services in Sin City are sexual. Still, since the leaflets -- and booklets in the newspaper dispensers -- advertise only personal "entertainers" and "escorts," according to the letter of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, that’s legal.

Couched as adult entertainment, these leaflets are ostensibly selling nothing more than what’s sold in gentleman’s clubs all over the world. It’s the same service, again ostensibly, only now in the comfort of a hotel room. And if that service happens to cross a particular line into illegal territory, then the entertainer and her audience risk suffering the consequences.

    Lawsuit
I believe there was a lawsuit once where a guy sued because the woman who showed up at his hotel was not the same one depicted on the card. It was dismissed.

    Slappers
Is it just me? The last couple times I have been in Vegas, (December 2024 and 2025) I don’t remember the usual gauntlet of slappers. Has it diminished or do they take golden week off as well?

    slappers
they're almost gone, usually just a few and they're not nearly as aggressive as a few years ago. Kids will need another hobby

    Showgirls/munks
They’re pretty much all gone from what I’ve seen the last few years. Now it’s the chubby ‘show girls’ or Star Wars hucksters and the munks whatever their deal is. I wear my Unlv hat and I’m left alone people think I’m a local.

When they first started, we used to collect the cards and give them back to them the next day. Ha!

    Girl to your "Door"
I have no personal experience, but I understand from others that "Direct to your room" means someone shows up at your door. They charge you just for that, and then you have to negotiate for more than that directly with the escort (and her bodyguard). It's supposedly a very expensive ripoff, especially if she ends up robbing you for real.

    Thank God for OnlyFans!
Took the entire industry online and allowed the girls to work independently.

I don’t know for sure, because I have never ever experienced such services; however, I think the correct description is Fans Only, instead of Only Fans…LMBO@U

    STORY TIME
About 8 years ago, stayed at the Plaza two bedroom suite with some friends. The living room was in between the two bedrooms and I had no problem sleeping on the couch. I called it in early one night, was almost asleep when there was a knock on the door. I opened it and a young woman asked if I was the one that called for her. I was a bit bewildered and thought I was being pranked. I sent her away but a few minutes later the door opened, and it was one of my buddies with the young lady. Him and the other friend we were with had waited down in the casino near the elevator to "scout" the talent when it showed up. They saw her enter and when she came back down they knew it was her and at that point approached her as she was deemed to be acceptable (I guess). Only time I have even had any type of interaction like that. Crazy.
