Question of the Day - 21 June 2018

Q:

Can you tell us something about the Super Shuttle we saw when we were there recently?

A:

The blue vans with white wings and orange lettering — SuperShuttle, Need a Lift? Home and Hotel Airport Ride 1-800-BlueVan — are the same in Las Vegas as they are in 39 other locations around the U.S. The vans shuttle between the Strip/downtown and the airport and you share the ride with other passengers. You pay the same price no matter how many passengers there are, generally between $10 and $20 one way.

We’ve fielded some complaints about SuperShuttle in Las Vegas, where they seem to have problems. Whether they’re understaffed, have too few vehicles, or are just inefficient and unresponsive, we don’t know. But you can go to Yelp and Trip Advisor and read one-star review after one-star review (with the occasional “If I could rate SuperShuttle with less than one star, I would”) and the reason we’re running this question is to encourage readers to weigh in with their own SuperShuttle stories, good and bad.

And thanks in advance for contributing.

    Someday...
The monorail will go downtown and to the airport. The taxi fare to (and from) Downtown and the airport will be standardized. Regular taxi rates will not be as high as they are today. Obviously, today is not that day.

    Supershuttle
We use it from Smithville Tx to Bergstrom-Austin & are satisfied, we pay extra for individual pick up & SUV. We use Personal Sedan in Las Vegas & it is fine.

    Super shuttle?
It used to be the best/cheapest way to and from the air port in Seattle. Not anymore. Uber is way better.
In 'Vegas,Bell Trans from and Uber to the air port is my choice.

    Supershuttle
It is designed to do one thing and one thing only. The company invades a town and immediately destroys Taxi, Uber, Lyft, Limo, and other Shuttle buses business in an attempt to take all of those businesses over by putting them out of business. I have seen it happen in many cities across the US. Remember how Wallmart invaded towns shutting down local businesses with cheap prices and then raising prices once the competition was gone. That is the same business model of Supershuttle. once there is no compititon Supershuttle provides shitty service at higher prices. Enjoy it!

    Sub-Super Shuttle
I have used this shuttle from the airport to my Strip hotel my last two Vegas trips. Both times I had to wait a very long time before my assigned van arrived. They have a smartphone app so you can reserve and pay for your ride before you land. You tell them your arrival time and when you notify them you have arrived they give you directions to the pickup point and the number of the van that has been assigned. Once I had been picked up the ride/service was excellent. Last year I used them to go from Harrah's to the airport. The driver notified me that he would be late picking me up because of traffic. He arrived 15 minutes late, but even though he had other riders to pick up he made arrangements for another van to do the pickups and took me directly to the airport. They have a AAA discount so my one way fares to/from the Strip have been $9.00. Like their app and service but the wait at the airport pickup is way too long. Seriously thinking of using Uber next time.

    Terrible for rides from airport
We booked a SuperShuttle to and from the airport last year. We had a group of 7 and it was cheaper than 2 taxis. The shuttle to the airport was on time and easy.

However, the ride home was a different story. I checked in with their app when we landed, which told me to go to the SuperShuttle desk. When I got there and asked about my shuttle, they told me it would be an hour before it would be there. Apparently they feel that getting you home on time from the airport isn't as much of a priority as getting you to the airport, so whether or not you have a shuttle reserved at a specific time, they don't have the shuttle waiting for you, instead once you check in they assign the next (unassigned) shuttle to pick you up. You are in luck if one just dropped off a group, not so lucky if there isn't one in the area. So as a result we have started taking Uber or a cab to and from the airport, even though it is more expensive, at least we have more control over it.
