Question of the Day - 20 January 2022

Q:

When will Top of Binion’s open? I saw online July 1, 2022. I do not want to wait. I love that place.

A:

According to Elizabeth Bristow of Binion’s Gambling Hall, “As of right now, there is no reopening date for Top of Binion’s Steakhouse. When we do have a confirmed opening date, it will be posted to our social media."

The reason appears to boil down to staffing. On Dec. 19, above a picture of a cordoned-off elevator to the steak house ran the appeal, “We're hiring all over our property!”

While December might seem early to be staffing up for a July or later reopening, the note of desperation implicit in the exclamation point speaks volumes.

We sympathize with your impatience. We like Binion's Steakhouse too -- for the food, view, service, and a cool bar just hang out at on occasion.

    Elizabeth Bristow
Just a comment on the name Elizabeth Bristow. I actually have a student with this name in my World History class.

    Missed a bet
The coffee shop in the basement, which I remember fondly as the place where you could get the $2 steak dinner (or breakfast), should have been named Bottom of Binions. Symmetry, and all that. Or maybe Becky Binion Behnen's Bottom Bistro.

    It is their fault!
If Binion's hadn't of fired all the original staff, they would have a functioning Steakhouse: just like with the wonderful Coffee Shop staff, many of whom worked in the Binion's basement, for 20+ years!

I miss the surf and turf
I miss the surf and turf, along with the view. The coffee shop, with its copper topped tables, should also be reopened. Best sourdough English muffins (along with Golden Gate's) in town.
