Question of the Day - 08 November 2025

Q:

I see that the Eagles have extended their residency again and they're now up to 52 shows. Made me wonder what are the most successful residencies in Las Vegas history, based on ticket sales and number of dates.

A:

Based on reported data from Billboard Boxscore, here are the top 10 most successful Las Vegas residencies, in both gross revenue and number of tickets sold.

We should add that the final numbers for the Eagles residency haven't been reported, so they're not included here. No doubt, based on the take from the U2 and Dead & Company shows at Sphere, the Eagles will be up there in the top five when all is said and done.

Celine Dion occupies the number-one and number-two spots, based on long runs and high attendance. Her first residency set the stage for all to follow and actually prompted the construction of the Colosseum at Caesars with 4,100 seats, pretty much doubling the capacity of the next largest theater at the time. "Celine Dion – A New Day…" grossed $385 million over 714 shows (2003-2007) with 2.8 million tickets sold; her followup "Celine" residency (2011-2019) grossed $296 million over 497 shows and 1.7 million tickets sold.

Then comes U2's "UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere." You can see by the 40 shows, 663,000 tickets sold, and $254 million gross that these were much more expensive concerts to attend than Celine's.

Number four is "Weekends with Adele," also at the Colosseum: exactly 100 shows, 420,000 tickets, $200 million.

Elton John comes in at number five: 247 shows, just under a million tickets, $166 million.

Numbers six through 10 are Britney Spears' "Piece of Me" (248 shows, 916,00 tickets, $138 million); Dead & Company's "Dead Forever: Live at Sphere" (48, 765,000, $132 million); Elton John in "The Million Dollar Piano" (189, 777,000, $131 million); Garth Brooks' "Plus ONE" (72, $305,000, $130 million), and "Bruno Mars at Park MGM" (79, 410,000, $125 million).

    Elvis?
Elvis Presley appeared in 636 to 641 shows in Las Vegas. He would have received only $9,000,000 in adjusted income but still the number of shows would have put him in the top 10, true or not true?

    Wayne Newton?
I thought Wayne Newton would come in first. He played LV for years. Doesn't he count?

    Sir Rod Stewart
He started his residency in 2011 at the Colosseum and has done over 200 shows. And he will be back there in 2026

    Longest Residency?
I'd be curious who has had the longest residency. While Elvis was there for 7 years, Donny and Marie were there for 11. Technically, Wayne Newton has been performing for over 60 years now and according to Google, has performed more than 30,000 solo performances. None of these acts performs continuously without breaks, so it's hard to measure.

    no magic?
I suppose magic acts do not count as residencies? I was thinking of Mac King. Danny Gans had a long run, I thought. Siegfried & Roy?

    Barry Manilow
Barry Manilow broke Elvis's record of 636 shows in Las Vegas in 2023.

    Lady Gaga
Just thought she’d be on the list. How many performances are needed to consider it a residency?

    Lady Gaga
She only did 72 shows in Vegas, might not even be in the top 100

    The math doesn't add up
How did Adele sell 420,000 tickets in 100 shows in a 4,100 seat venue?
