Question of the Day - 19 September 2020

Q:

Any truth to the rumor that while the Rio has been closed, there is a TV show filming in there?

A:

The second season of “Love Island,” the CBS reality dating series, is being taped at the Cromwell. The shows started airing on August 24 and are on seven nights a week at 9 p.m., with a two-hour recap of the week's events on Saturdays at 8 p.m. From what we understand, some scenes have been taped at the Rio, but the production bubble is at the Cromwell.

A second show, ABC’s “Shark Tank,” has reportedly set up a quarantine bubble at an unnamed Las Vegas hotel. We might suspect the Rio, but our source claims the hotel is on the Strip. So it could be Park MGM/NoMad (which opens next week), Planet Hollywood, Tropicana (which opened on Thursday), or even the Cromwell.

It is being used for Love Island
My wife and I started watching this season because we live in NY and can’t travel to Nevada so it give us our Vegas fix. They have filmed parts of the show at Rio and for 3 nights used it at as a 2nd “Island.” It appears a couple of the dates have been filmed on the rooftop. One was clearly the Voodoo deck which we’ve been to but another had a small pool so we didn’t recognize that.

    Love Island update
The 2nd "villa" was set up at the Rio Palazzo Suites. They brought in a new group of guys. Eventually the 2 groups merged and everyone is back at Drai's Beach Club at the Cromwell. Several games were shot at the Rio, possibly on the top deck of the parking garage since there's a clear view of the Strip in the background.

    Shark Tank 2020 shooting location
Most likely location for shooting Shark Tank would be the Four Seasons Hotel. It reopens September 25 and it only occupies 5 floors of the Mandalay Bay hotel, so it's easy to keep things private. There's a real shark tank too for fish shots. The Sharks are all at least multi millionaires, they wouldn't make them stay in anything less than a 5 star hotel.
