Does the city of Las Vegas have a rental program where you can rent bicycle scooters downtown?
It certainly does.
In 2016, the city launched its bike-share program by introducing 180 regular pedal-powered bikes available from 21 rental stations around downtown. You pay online or via a kiosk at the station with a credit card or cell phone, then grab a bike, ride to where you're going, and return the bike to one of the stations. Back then, the cost was $4 for 30 minutes, $8 for 24 hours, and $20 for a month.
That same year, the Regional Transportation Commission did a two-week trial run with electric bikes, adding five e-bikes powered by a front-wheel pedal-assist motor that can go as fast as 17 miles per hour. The trial run was so successful that the RTC added more and more e-bikes to the fleet until now, the 200-vehicle fleet is a mix of regular bikes (still the majority) and e-bikes, which according to the RTC are two and a half times more popular.
The bright green electric bikes cost an additional $1 per checkout when you the pay for one of the three options (for either type bike): 24 hours ($5), 3 days ($10), or monthly ($15).
Interestingly, since the shutdown in March, bike-shares have increased 300% year over year; in May alone, an average of 1,000 bikes per day were rented. Users can locate e-bikes in advance on the RTC Bike Share website map or the BCycle app; a lightning-bolt symbol indicates that at least one e-bike is at a particular station.
