Were there two bellmen who recently celebrated 50 years of service each at the Las Vegas Hilton?
Yes. Most of their employment was when the hotel was called the Las Vegas Hilton, though they both started working there when it was called the International. And they still work there now that it's called Westgate Las Vegas. Both, as far as we know, are still "pumping vinyl" to this day, with no plans to retire. Among their many friends and admirers is the president of the resort, who started as a front-desk clerk.
Alonzo Langstaff, 72, started at the resort on Oct. 12, 1971, while his close friend and fellow bellman Earl Manson started two days later on Oct. 14. So they celebrated 50 years two Octobers ago.
A story in the Las Vegas Sun in October 2021 featured the pair, who "are so well-liked by customers that some repeat guests have been requesting one or the other to handle their bags for years."
For Langstaff, originally from Arkansas, and Manson, from Louisiana, the hotel has been their family all these decades. This is especially true for Manson, who's wife died in 1978 and who raised his three children as an adult dad -- with a lot of assistance from his co-workers. More than 60 employees worked at the property for at least 40 years at the time of the two bellmen's 50th anniversary.
