Question of the Day - 16 April 2023

Q:

Just returned from a trip to Las Vegas and can’t tell the players from the scorecard (slot cards). You’ve probably answered this a hundred times, but who owns what?

A:

Some of the "ownership" is complicated, in that the largest casino companies (Caesars Entertainment, MGM Resorts International) have sold their real estate, but continue to operate the casinos. For that story, essentially the real estate owned by Vici Properties, you can read this QoD

Boyd Gaming, Station Casinos, Wynn Resorts, and Phil Ruffin are now the biggest owner-operators in town.

Thanks to the infusion of Native American tribes and new entrepreneurs, the picture is notably less consolidated than it was a few years ago. We’ve omitted several small operators for the sake of brevity and priority.

Here goes …

Affinity Gaming: Silver Sevens

    Monopoly
Three weeks from now, the answers to this question will be obsolete.

Actually, my implied comparison of Vegas to a Monopoly board may be inaccurate. A Monopoly board has Free Parking.

    Boyd Cannery locations
In addition to Boyd Gaming owning the Cannery in North Las Vegas they also own the Eastside Cannery on Boulder Hwy, near Sam's Town. But I think the Eastside Cannery location has not reopened after closing during the covid19 situation. Tourists are probably more likely to come across the Eastside Cannery than the north Cannery since the north one is kinda out of the typical tourist area. The Eastside Cannery is the former location of the old Nevada Palace casino.

    mohegan sun
i think the mohegan sun casino at virgin hotel has one owner for the hotel and and another for the casino which is owned by mohegan gaming. Is this correct?

    Ellis island
I always wondered about that name, since it's 2500+miles Äway from the original, which was an immigration place, not a casino.
