Question of the Day - 18 June 2019

Q:

Do you have to pay for a lounge chair (not a cabana or daybed — I know you have to pay for those) at the Caesars Palace pools? I know you can pay to reserve one, but can you get one without paying? If you don't pay, can you lose your lounge chair if you go for a swim or go for lunch at the poolside restaurant?

A:

With the official start of summer only a couple days away and temperatures already in the triple digits, your thoughts and ours turn to lounging by the pool. But if you want to lounge in a reserved chair at most pools on the Strip, the big casino companies aren't missing any opportunity to monetize their hotels' access to fun in the sun.

At Caesars, lounges run $20-$40 for the day, depending on the pool and whether it's a weekday or weekend. You can book online. MGM Resorts also has an online reservation system for lounges, daybed, and cabanas at 12 of its properties.

If you pay for a lounge chair, pool staff will monitor it while you’re either swimming or off noshing. Says one Caesars concierge, “They know which ones are reserved and which ones are not.”

If you don't reserve one, but snatch one early enough, you're probably okay; there seems to be an unwritten rule that poolside lounges with stuff on them are claimed and left alone. That said, we were told that if a non-reserved lounge chair sits too long without anyone on it, staff will remove personal articles "for safekeeping."

You don't have to pay for a lounge chair; if non-reserved chaise longues are available, unless they're in a special reserved-only section, they're up for grabs. But with the well-heeled renting their lounge chairs and the bargain hunters getting up very early to claim the non-reserved chairs, you might find yourself reduced to a hot spot on the concrete deck.

    Resort Fee
Shouldn't this be covered by the dreaded resort fee?

  • Reeko Jun-18-2019
    Rip offs
With all these extra fees I am wondering how long people go there instead of staying close to home to gamble, etc. How long will it be before there is a cover charge of $20-$30 to enter a restaurant?

    Trip to Vegas
In addition to fees stopping folks from going to Vegas, the tight machines are doing that. Since 1979 I've gone to Vegas once or twice a year. Normally by now I've had my trip planned and would be going soon. Not this year, I'm still debating on going. The last 2 trips were disastrous. I mostly play video poker. There was so little action at the machines, no fun at all, plus bringing very little money home for my next trip. I felt like such a fool. And this year the comps I'm being offered are a joke, both for Vegas and the Chicagoland. They don't appreciate me, they don't respect me, why in the world would I give them one more penny? Caesars, are you listening?

    Close to Home
We also was going to Vegas once or twice a year. More and more expensive...tight payouts..hassles at airports...low/no comps. We are staying close to home. Why go all the way to Vegas and the hassles when we can stay close and lose $$...lol

    LV As Convention Capital
Las Vegas has definitely reinvented itself as the U.S. convention capital. Other visitors could do much better than the Strip by staying and visiting the local casinos away from Las Vegas Boulevard. There are many other attractions outside casinos, as well.

I will pay for a Cabana
For the past couple of years I have paid for a cabana for the day. Cabana rentals are typically about $300 per day. Which goes a lot farther than $300 in a slot machine. It is a good way to relax and unwind, and if you have several people in your party, you can split the cost amongst yourselves. I really enjoy my days by the pool, and not worrying about saving a chair.

    lounge chairs
while you are staying at the hotel on vacation for a few days can you go over to Target or WalMart and get an inexpensive lounge chair and take it to the pool when you go down there, take it back to the room when you leave? They aren't that heavy.
