Question of the Day - 12 April 2023

Q:

We just relocated to Vegas from upstate New York (love the weather here!) and though we've visited many times, we're just now starting to learn our way around the rest of the city. Can you tell me what are the roads in Las Vegas that divide street addresses by north, south, east, and west?

A:

The numbering system is divided by the following streets.

Westcliff Drive, US 95, Fremont Street, and Charleston Boulevard account for the north-south designation.

Las Vegas Boulevard South divides the east-west streets, from the far south end of the Strip up to near the Stratosphere. From there, Main Street determines the east-west dividing line all the way to the North Las Vegas border. From there, Goldfield Street divides east and west.

    Maps
While this has nothing to do with the question, I created maps of the Las Vegas area, highlighting the casinos, main roads, and some non-casino points of interest. People, particularly tourists, have told me that these maps a more useful than many of the other maps they've seen.

    Useful Streets in LV
Maryland Parkway may be my #1 pick for road usefulness when I'm in LV. Turn left on Carson for easy access to downtown Fremont while avoiding the Strip and the spaghetti mess near DT. Maryland Pky also lets you dip in and out of the strip from Tropicana (MGM Grand area) to Sahara (Strat north strip area).

    Maps
As a soon-to-be resident, I thank you for posting that Dave! As someone leaving the comfort of the Chicago area grid system, this will come in handy.

    Dave map link
Dave, is it OK to post your link into a group when folks are asking questions that your map may help answer. Thanks

  • Dave_Miller_DJTB Apr-12-2023
    WOW. Thanks!
I didn't expect to get this much response to my maps. Thanks a lot.

Links? Sure! Post a link to my website or to my maps page.

FYI: Download the maps for personal use, but please don't download and repost the maps themselves.

By the way, I'm not a Vegas local. I kinda made these maps for myself.

Feel free to email suggestions or corrections to the address at the bottom of those pages.

    Thanks.

Las Vegas cities and towns map
It would be very useful to have a map showing the exact city and town borders. USPS considers everything to be Las Vegas except Henderson and North Las Vegas. But especially for new residents it's important to know where they are because the cities and Clark County have different utility companies, zoning/planning/building departments, police and fire departments.

For example the north side of Sahara Avenue is serviced by Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, but properties across the street are in the town of Winchester which is covered by the Clark County Fire Department. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department deals with both sides of the street though. Only Henderson and North Las Vegas have their own police department. It's very confusing, even for locals.
