Question of the Day - 17 September 2019

Q:

Thank you for listing the largest conventions in Las Vegas. I was amazed that so many were so big. But it begs the question. What are the biggest convention centers in Las Vegas?

A:

You're welcome. Thank you for your question. It gave us the opportunity to update our list of the top-ten largest convention centers in Las Vegas.

1. Las Vegas Convention Center: 3.2 million square feet

2. Sands Expo-Venetian-Palazzo: 2.25 million square feet

3. Mandalay Bay Events Center: 1.8 million square feet

4. Aria: 500,000 square feet

5. Cashman Center: 480,000 square feet

6. MGM Grand Convention Center: 380,000 square feet

7. Caesars Palace: 300,000 square feet

8. Wynn-Encore: 260,000 square feet

9. Las Vegas Hilton: 200,000 square feet

10. Bally’s Las Vegas: 175,000 square feet

The Las Vegas Convention Center is currently being expanded; when the project is completed next year, its square footage will rise to 3.8 million.

Also, two major new convention centers are currently under construction: the Wynn's 400,000-square-foot center that could open as early as next month; and the $375 million 550,000-square-foot Caesars Forum located behind the LINQ, Harrah’s and Flamingo, scheduled to open in 2020.

The new Wynn center will push its place up to number four at 660,000 square feet. And when the Caesars center enters the list, it will become the new number five.

Rio isn't even in the top 10...
at about 160,000. No wonder the WSOP was so crowded this year.
If they sell it off and move to Caesars, they'll have twice the space, plus they can charge for parking.

    good news
Expansion. There must be expectation of good economy/commerce on the horizon. Good for Vegas and airlines, hotels, dining from conventioners. Hope so.

Hooray SEMA in November! My non-gambling husband comes for anything car related, good excuse for a Vegas vacation.

A conversation about Vegas convention centers...
...and no one mentioned moving GenCon from Indianapolis? There's a first time for everything.

Oh, and GenCon won't be in Vegas any time soon, for a number of reasons, including a long-term contract with Indianapolis, the fact that gaming conventions out west don't do well, and GenCon has a significant "younger" clientele that's not exactly a fit with Vegas
