What are the best places to see the Sphere lit up at night? I see videos of the Sphere from the outside with all of the graphics and the light show. I also remember seeing various stories about how that may be causing some safety and traffic issues. Is there anyplace that is recommended for a person to see the Sphere outside light show that is safe and relatively easy to get to?
A great place is one of the parking garages on Howard Hughes Parkway in the Hughes Center. We haven't been there yet, but we hear you get unobstructed views of the dome. And now that the movie Postcard from Earth is showing nightly, prices have been reduced to $15. So for $15, you can sit in your car and watch the light show. If you're there to see the movie, take one of the crosswalks across Manhattan Street to access the Sphere. You can even reserve parking spaces for Sphere events at vegaseventparking.com.
Beyond that, there's some free parking on Westchester Drive to the south of the building and Manhattan Street to the east. Just keep both eyes peeled for pedestrians positioning themselves for video and selfies, sometimes stepping unconsciously into traffic.
Don't stop or even slow down in front of Sphere on Sands Avenue. This is a very busy cross-Strip thoroughfare and we've heard that people trying to get somewhere, particularly taxi and ride-share drivers, have gone into rages at oblivious gawkers stopping in the middle of the road.
But here's perhaps the best public place: the top of the Wynn self-parking garage. For now, the first four hours are free, but the word's out about the view, so we'll see how long that lasts.
We believe that the best view by far is from the top of Wynn employee parking garage, which almost butts up against the west side of the Sphere. But it's not open to the public.
