I was just reading that “The Villas Caesars Palace Receives Rare AAA Five Diamond Designation” on the VitalVegas website. I was wondering if the villas were built after the first The Hangover movie (in 2009) or before. According to a quick internet search, the first reference to them is a New York Post article in 2014.
The Villas Caesars Palace (no "at" in the name) comprise six suites, all named after Roman emperors and between 9,420 and 11,850 square feet of pure exorbitant extravagance. You can get 360-degree tours of them here.
We searched high and low and even called -- gasp!* -- Caesars Palace, but couldn't come up with a single opening date for the six Villas Caesars Palace. Apparently, they were rolled out over time, with a new villa or two added during various expansions and renovations.
Also, the descriptions of the high-roller suites at Caesars Palace tend to get lumped together, with no historical accounts of individual whale digs.
For example, in 2010, some were added to the Augustus Tower, in 2012 to the Octavius Tower, and in 2017 to the Palace Tower, all after the first Hangover movie. So it's safe to assume that the Villas Caesars Palace post-date Hangover as well.
Finally, we wondered why the connection between the Villas and Hangover? Because the suite in the movie might be one of the Five Diamond bad boys? If so, we determined that though some of the exterior and corridor shots were filmed at Caesars Palace, the interior of the Hangover suite was a set on a sound stage in Burbank, California.
* Why "gasp!"? Over the decades, we've learned that trying to wrest information like this out of the reservations, front desk, VIP, PR, marketing, and even housekeeping departments at major Strip hotel-casinos is an exercise in excessive ineffectiveness.
