Why is there an enclosed walkway to the Sphere from the Venetian/Palazzo and no one is allowed to use it?
The enclosed walkway from Venetian/Palazzo to Sphere provides convenient direct access between the buildings. The pedestrian throughfare is approximately 1,000 feet long and designed to make it easier for visitors to reach Sphere without having to go outtadoors and down to street level.
Though we've heard that the walkway is closed from time to time and that it gets jam packed on occasion (this was more frequent when Sphere first opened two years ago), we're not aware that "no one is allowed to use it." Every time we've seen it, it's been open; granted, that's only been a few times in total. From our research, we find that during large conventions or events at the Venetian Expo Center, the walkway might be closed to manage the crowds and/or prioritize conventioneers.
Sometimes for soldout concert crowds, general-admission ticket holders are separated from holders of more expensive tickets; the GA crowd is directed down to the Sands Avenue sidewalk.
Finally, the walkway might be closed when it becomes overwhelmed with people, such as during peak times, to manage the flow.
A call to the Venetian for this question elicited this response, "To confirm access for a particular date, your readers can always check with the Venetian’s concierge at 702.607.4300. The desk will have up-to-date information on access to Sphere from the hotels and vice versa."
