And: Are more promo discounts going to be available in 2022? And and and ...

A:

As the great sage, seer, and soothsayer Yogi Berra famously said, "It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future."

The above litany comprises just a handful of crystal-ball-type questions we receive on a daily basis. The obvious problem in answering them is, believe it or not, that we don't have the inside track in every casino-management boardroom and executive office.

Yes, we have our ear to the ground, our eyes wide open, and some sources in the industry, but the fact is, many of the casino companies themselves don't know when their closed hotel-casinos, restaurants, shows, shuttles, etc. will go back into action.

Also, things are changing so fast -- labor shortages, supply-chain disruptions, vaccine mandates, COVID cases, etc. -- that even if they do know when, Those In Charge are playing things very close to the vest. Until they're certain a closed venue can reopen with at least some semblance of normal staff and service, mum seems to be the word.

As soon as we learn that a closed business or casino venue is reopening, we post a notice in our Vegas News feature. Otherwise, our crystal ball broke in March 2020 at the beginning of what remains the chaotic and conflicted course of a global health crisis.

    Mister Predicto sayeth...
That the future Vegas will be more expensive, less enjoyable, and in general, worse in almost every way than it was before.

    Kevin Lewis......
Honestly, that is probably the greatest and most accurate prediction I have ever read (with the exception of less enjoyable, at least for me as all I do is play poker). Is there a place that offers odds on this prediction? I'll mortgage my house.

    That's not a difficult prediction...
Mister Predicto is really just saying that the trends of the last forty years will continue.

    healthy tensions
From a corporate perspective if they are running at 80% they can keep pressure up on room charges, table minimums, and all the %^&* service fees. Why compete for business when people are competing for rooms. Only when they get to 98% capacity will they feel the need to open up another property and continue to gouge - keeping a healthy tension on capacity is management 101 - people want what they can't have.

Want to sell more - put up a limited quantity sign, Ie you can only buy 2 at this price. G Q Public will figure a way around this right into your pocket book.

    Openings
They will open when the soldiers ( people ) push back. What would happen if no one would wear the piece of paper over mouth and nose. ? Nothing. They are useless. Face it the viral epidemic is over if allowed to run its course. Don’t quote me cdc that is run by phd. Don’t mention idiot lord Fauci. In my area Ms only place wearing mask is Doctors office. Hmmm. Fear via medical complex. It is obvious jab does not work and to date 12k deaths and several hundred k side effects many permanent. Do any of you watch anything other than CNN. Have you ignored Norway and Sweden who did nothing and are normal. Where was flu virus???
You have above plus casinos gutting poker and no telling what to slot payback. They think the huge crowds will last forever. The people have been locked up for one year and they party when released.
Do you know of Australia? Police state and internment camps over a grand total of 3. Yes three cases. East has closed borders and are normal. Think!!!!

    O-h-h-h woe is me!
As usual, all the gloomy Gus's are out. I expect by a little later in the day, there will be many more. If people stopped going to Vegas because the experience wasn't optimal, there would be no Vegas. However, even with the massive increase in gambling opportunities throughout the nation, Vegas won't go away. They have figured out that instead of fighting each other, they just try to drag you away from non-Vegas competition. AND, since Caesar's and MGM own several properties nationwide,(Boyd, too, for you off-Strip people), they can use their other locations to promote Vegas. And since these locations usually have less competition, they can offer worse odds and still be successful, making their ability to point to Vegas as a good option.

    My Statement
Jerry Patey's comments indicate he is true conservative - but I tend to agree with everything that he says. I live in Las Vegas, and moved here from the Midwest several years ago for many reasons, not to mention gambling. The influx of illegals has driven what was once the great old USA into the ground, and LV is part of it. Gone are the glory days of the past when we moved here. Anyone waiting for the Strip to return to "normalcy" had better plan on waiting a long, long time.

    Guess-timats
The way Vegas is set up now the casinos are not rushing out to open things up..why would they. Minimal labor costs (getting 1 person to do 2-3 jobs), high resort fees, parking fees, increased restaurant cost and a whole lot of Cali visitors with excess money to spend. This Covid shut down has helped them re-invent themselves to allow for more profits...I would not be surprised if Stations never open up Fiesta again but sell off the properties...the same goes for the Palms.

    $22.3 Trillion Debt

means that if you spend one million dollars an hour, it would take 411 years to run out.
If this country continues on the monetary path it is on, Vegas will collapse along with the rest of the US economy, only harder.

oh, stop it people, ALL IS GOOD!
Well, look at the bigger picture here people in the new world order of control freaks at many levels making this all happen at every level of our society, the world, and right here in Las Vegas. It's almost as if someone who is demented and can hardly form a sentence or thought is helping lead the parade. But no. Nope. That's not true. That can't possibly be. No Way. Never would happen. Besides, who in the world would vote for such an individual? So yep, all is GREAT, never mind, everything is on the up and up, everyone in charge cares only about your health, my health. So come on people, viva Las Vegas, let's gamble, woo woo.

  • Carl LaFong Oct-08-2021
    WOW, just WOW !
Between Kevin's perpetual "how can I blast & denigrate LV today?" rants and Jerry's incoherent ramblings, there's no better place to go for today's chuckle.

    Buffets @ Caesars properties
I'm not going to get into the debate on everything else. Here is a fact from someone in control of purchasing at CET. El Dorado was planning on shutting down most of their buffets nationwide before the pandemic hit. All the smaller markets, New Orleans, Memphis, Kansas City, etc. They do not plan to open any of those buffets as they were all loss leaders. Thanks to the pandemic they are not planning to open any other Vegas buffet than Caesars. His quote was "we will look at opening some of the buffets in Vegas as competition dictates, but don't count on anything". If anything changes I'll gladly post an update. I'm not holding my breath. I talk with/email them every month.
