I heard that there is an establishment or bar in Las Vegas, near the Strip, that has the largest selection of scotch whiskey in the state of Nevada and maybe the country. Can you tell us where it is, how many varieties, the rarest, and the most expensive they have? How does this selection rank worldwide?
We think you’re talking about Whisky Attic, at 4780 West Harmon Avenue, five minutes from the Strip and concealed within a strip-mall façade.
Whisky Attic is owned and curated by Adam Carmer, late of the beloved Freakin’ Frog, a Las Vegas institution for more than 10 years for its enormous beer selection, that closed in late 2014.
Whisky Attic offers whiskey tastings starting at $75, bourbon tastings for $100, and scotch tastings from $175. (Reservations are required.) It’s not a walk-in business, but your tasting fee gets you 90 to 120 minutes with “close to 4,000 different bottles” of whiskey, which the Attic estimates is one of the largest collections in North America and in the top 20 worldwide.
As to rarity and price, a Whisky Attic spokesperson told us, “We don’t want to put that information out there. That’s a loaded question, because ‘rare’ can mean a lot of different things.”
Spend a couple of hours sampling whiskey at the Attic and we wouldn’t be surprised if you’re loaded in another manner entirely.
