Question of the Day - 05 January 2021

Q:

Was in Vegas over Christmas break and saw a small ad in the Review-Journal stating Wild Wild West discontinued the use of all casino chips. Did a news search and found nothing about them ending table games. What's going on?

A:

Probably, the reason you couldn't find anything in your search was that this happened a year and a half ago. We reported on it at the time, but since the Advisor isn't public, it wouldn't come up in a search.

Here's our snippet from the July 2019 LVA: "Wild Wild West — All live table games have been removed; they’ve been replaced with multi-player electronic games (from Interblock) for blackjack, craps, and roulette."

Simple as that.

This was long before the pandemic, so it has nothing to do with business being down since then — as it has at several other properties that have taken out their table games, such as Lucky’s, Silver Nugget, and Arizona Charlie’s Boulder, while the Downtown Grand has suspended table games Monday through Wednesday.

    WWW dealer
It's a shame, too, because one of the nicest, friendliest dealers I've ever encountered at any blackjack table anywhere was dealing the cards at the WWW the one day I stopped in there to check another casino chip off my list and play a few hands there. He was a Vegas lifer, you could tell. Really neat guy, lots of good stories, and really friendly. I tipped him well.

The same thing happened at the Pioneer in Laughlin...
and several of the dealers there were Las Vegas old-timers.
It's just part of the continuing trend of depersonalization and mechanization.
