Question of the Day - 11 June 2026

Q:

I don’t know if this qualifies as a Q of the Day — I do want to see the Wizard of Oz before it leaves the Sphere. Have they announced a date for the conclusion of the run? And have they announced what comes next? Will there be another special movie, or are they just going to concentrate on music acts?

A:

Yes, this qualifies as a QoD. It's a good one.

Here's what we wrote a month ago in Vegas News under the heading Wizard of Oz Nearing Three Million Tickets.

In its first-quarter earnings call, Sphere Entertainment's CEO announced that the Wizard of Oz has sold "almost three million tickets," generating $370 million in ticket sales alone. If you recall, the AI-updated movie opened last August 28, so it's little more than eight months into its run, which Sphere said in the earnings call will be "a strong performer through 2026 and beyond."

So if you're planning a trip to Vegas at least by the end of this year and probably into 2027, you're pretty safe to see the movie. In fact, you can buy tickets up through December 31 (they start at $303 and go all the way up to $1,779 on New Year's Eve; a day earlier, they're $260 and up).

As far as a special movie that comes next, yes, there is one. It's called From the Edge and it's an immersive film focusing on elite athletes engaged in extreme sports. Shot using Sphere Studios' proprietary 16K "Big Sky" camera system, specifically designed for the venue’s massive wrap-around screen, From the Edge features Alex Honnold (rock climbing; he was filmed in April climbing the outside of Sphere itself), Alenka Artnik (free diving), Markus Eder (skiing), Katie Hansen Lajeunesse (BASE jumping), and Kai Lenny (surfing). On the earnings call, it was stated that the movie will enter the arena's movie rotation "later this year."

So there's no end in sight for Wizard of Oz, which will remain on the biggest screen in the world until further notice, making room for the Next Big Thing by the end of 2026.
