Question of the Day - 02 December 2019

Q:

A:

We've published the question exactly the way it was submitted -- in French. Here's the translation: Is there a pool in Las Vegas that is open year-round?

This is a first in QoD history and in the spirit in which it was asked, plus being the language lovers that we are, we answered it in French, a language we're familiar with and love (though it did require a bit of an assist from Google Translate).

The answer in English follows.

Oui.

Yes. it's true. But of course.

There is one indoor-outdoor facility in Las Vegas at the non-gaming Platinum Hotel & Spa at 211 East Flamingo. Both parts of the pool are heated year-round.

Other hotels, including Embassy Suites Convention Center (3600 Paradise Road), Baymont Inn & Suites (on Robindale Road, about a mile and a half south of Mandalay Bay), and some Best Western and La Quinta properties, boast indoor pools, mainly of a fairly modest nature.

Las Vegas is also home to a number of municipal facilities and private athletic clubs with indoor pools, but these are designed, primarily, to cater to residents and not visitors.

The first removable roof over a pool area in Las Vegas opened on Halloween of this year. The climate-controlled transparent dome was installed 70 feet above the KAOS day/nightclub and one of the resort's pools and cabanas. Its future is questionable, given that KAOS closed suddenly in November.

I seem to remember a G.T. feature on the Tropicana having an indoor outdoor pool.

I thought there were a number of resorts that keep at least one pool open in the winter months. I know all of my timeshares keep the pools open, but I don't stay at hotels anymore so maybe not. I thought at least the Hard Rock and Cosmopolitan did though.

Just checked, and the Chelsea pool at Cosmo is open from 9am to 5pm. The other 2 pools are closed for the season.
