LVA Review

This restaurant was reviewed in the March 2005 LVA; some of the information contained in this review may no longer be accurate. The famous Times Square deli has opened a branch at the Mirage, the first outside of New York. Located near the sports book, Carnegie is open 7 a.m.-2 a.m. daily, and just like the NYC original, serves towering pastrami, roast beef, and turkey sandwiches. There’s more meat on these babies than you’ll ever see between two slices of bread, but that’s all there is—except for mustard and pickles that come on the side, you’ll have to arrange with the waiter for other toppings. The $11.95 price sounds steep, but one sandwich easily feeds two. There’s also matzo ball soup, pirogen, chicken in the pot, and other time-tested deli favorites and sides. Big desserts, including Carnegie’s famous cheesecake, go for $6.50-$7.50. Eat in or take out from the window.

    Big Slice
We had a MyVegas reward for a slice of cheesecake that we redeemed after having a large dinner at Portofino. We ordered at the counter, took a number and our order was delivered to our table. In our case we ordered a slice of plain cheesecake along with a coffee for my wife. The slice was very large and we were pretty full, so we were barely able to put a dent in it before requesting a doggie bag. It was as good as promised when we ate it over the following 2 days.
