LVA Review

This restaurant was reviewed in the December 2010 LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. Greek restaurants in Las Vegas haven’t had much staying power in the past, but that appeared to change when The Fat Greek came on the scene. The food was great and the critics loved it—so much, in fact, that it was included as one of the Essential 50 restaurants in Eating Las Vegas. Then the place was sold. Our ELV authors felt compelled to pull the restaurant from the list, pending the uncertainty with new owners. But after visiting several times since the sale, we haven’t noticed a change in quality and have no qualms about recommending it as the best place in Las Vegas for Greek food. The restaurant has a big dining room, but we prefer to take out, usually sticking with the standards like hummus ($5.25), tabbouli ($6.99), gyros ($7.50), or souvlaki ($10.95), almost always backed up by the killer Greek salad ($7.50). But there’s a lot more here, including good soups and bean salads, casseroles and stews, and main dishes of lamb, chicken, and seafood. And this place is big on desserts, with a major pastry section at the counter. Apparently, the old owners are opening a new joint in 2011 and there’s a huge buzz about Estiatorio Milos coming to the Cosmopolitan. But for now, this is the place for a Greek-food fix not too far from the Strip. Hours are 11 am-9 pm Mon.-Thurs. and 11-10 Friday and Saturday (closed Sunday).
